Just wondered if anyone out there has a Poppy - how did you go with grandparents? My dad is a Poppy to my brother's kids but wondered how it would work if we named our little girl Poppy? Poppy is our favourite name at the moment but just wondering about the details now!

the only reason i wouldnt use it though is my kids refer to there godfather as poppy and i think it would confuse them lol.

is it your first baby? would your children be calling him poppy aswell?

I never thought of that, Poppy is one of my favourite names and my father is Poppy to our son. Don't know what I will do if we have a girl then. By the way, I AM PREGNANT!!!!! No one knows yet (except my husband and Mum), but I thought it would be safe to announce it here, I am sure know one I know will come across this!!!! I am so excited.

Troops - yes, this is our first bub. My dad would be called something else if we chose Poppy as the baby's name but my neices would still call my dad Poppy, however they are now 10 and 5 so maybe they wouldn't get confused, oh, I don't know!!

Carly - congratulations, enjoy the next 9 months, can't believe how quickly it flies.

Lou - I love it too, it's such a beautiful name, different but not too different IYKWIM.

Poppy is our top girl name and Pop is my DH's dad. Maybe instead of Poppy for a grandparent he could just become Poppa or Pop.

I used to like it as a teenager but now I find it quite insubstantial. I quite like it as a nickname for Penelope, but not as a stand alone. Also, if you call a grandparent Poppy, that is going to get confusing.

I think it is a lovely name, but my FIL is Poppy to DD and niece and nephew (aged 13 and 15), so it wouldn't work in our family. But not sure if it would be confusing in your situation. Are you a close family and spend a lot of time together? If you normally only get together as a big group once or twice a year it should be okay, but if your family is like mine and DH's, at least once a week, it may get a bit much.

Ilove the name, it's on my list as well. My Dad & father in law are also called Poppy however the older ones call him Pop. I think as kids get older Poppy for a grandfather becomes a bit babyish and they chance to Pop.

I would go with it, it's lovely & sounds like a pretty girl.

I love it but wouldn't use it if Poppy was what they call Grandad - too confusing for kids.

DH hates it cross it off the list.

My friend has a DD Poppy and her father is called Poppy, all works fine in their world.

Does your Dad know he wouldn't be Poppy to your children? Only asking because my parents and in-laws chose their own names as Grandparents

hey... I think Poppy is a lovely name!

My son calls fil pop.

My sisters kids call my dad honey...coz thats what my mum calls him..and the oldest grandchild when she was younger..just called him honey..so it's always been that.
My brothers kids call my dad Grumpy Grampas...and so do my kids.

I am sure your kids can call him something different... it really doesn't matter in the end.

I love Poppy, but we have no grandfather issues.

I love the name Poppy for a little girl! Maybe if there is confusion re grandfather, they could be called Poppy (surname) or Poppy (first name). We have a Poppa(first name) and Pop as grandfathers names.

My niece is Poppi Grace , we didnt call our Grandparent Poppy so there was no association for us.

Maybe you will have to call him "Poppy XYZ".
