Sorry for the long post but I just needed to vent...
I have just spent the day/night in both Calvary AND TCH's A&E departments - FOR NOTHING it seems!!!
Long story short - Saturday 11.30am my 3mth old's eyes began to flick from side to side in unison for over 30secs and is completly unresponsive. After it happened twice more (and we flicked the visiting outlaws) I rang Health First and they said be calm unless it happens again, then go to hospital. It did, several times more (but not for as long) so we stupidly went to Calvary (as is closest) at 1.30pm ish. He did it one more time while we were waiting to see the triage nurse and then nothing again since... We were taken straight throught to the back of A&E and he had a canula put in (x2 attempts) for blood and fluids. At 5.30pm we are told we are to be transferred via Ambo to TCH to kids ward for observation for seziure activity (cue tears). We ask can we drive ourselves (as it would be quicker) and Dr said no due to canula, hosp policy blah blah blah... Send DH home to get organised to meet me at TCH (luckily he waited til I rang). At 11.00pm we are still waiting to be transferred and hosp suggest if we want we can drive over ourselves (as it might be quicker). I was furious, combined with stressed, tired and hungry. After temper-tantrum the Ambo's finally arrived at mid-night. Then I am told I am not going straight to the ward but have to go back in the line at TCH's triage/A&E system!!! What the!!!
Fianlly at 4.30am we are admitted to the ward. At 9.30am the Paed sees Spencer and tells me sorry for wasting your time but it is nothing to be concerned about, sometimes these things just happen. Then turns to the nurse and asks why was he admitted!
At this I nearly burst into tears. Bubs and I had had a day/night of complete stress with hardly any sleep it seems for nothing. I felt like an over-reacting idiot (I know I am not, it is the way the Dr's speak to you)
Anyway after all of that - I have a few questions...
Has anyone elses bubs displayed this kind of behaviour and I if so what did you do?
What would you do from here? See Paed or GP. I don't feel like it was nothing.
Again sorry for the long post. Am still tired and now so very very angry...
But relieved that my bubba is seemlingly ok.

Tan what a horrible experience for you! If I was you and still concerned, I'd go see my gp/paed and see what they say. Keep pushing until you are happy with the answers you get. You know your baby better than anyone, trust your instincts.

When my daughter was about 10 months old she started having fits. We were refered to a paed and after weeks of stuffing around he sent her to have a brain scan thing. An eeg or what ever they are called. Came back all clear. After months of fitting the fitting stopped and her eyes would just flicker from side to side. Another trip to paed and more stuffing around on his part. Then the eyes flickering stoppped and the blinking began and some times it would be blank stares. Where you couldnt get her attention. It was like she couldnt see or here anything. This was happening 4-5 times a day sometimes more. I took her to emergency when she stopped breathing along with these blank stares. We were refered to a different paed. One that worked at the hospital and she was the first person who actually told me what was wrong with Holly. It is a condition called "Blank Stares". She said that a few children have this and even though it is scary its not life threating and not effecting her growth or brain development. And that as she grows older it shouldnt happen as often and maybe one day even stop. Holly has just turnned 3 she is advanced for her age and only has these blinking and blank stare episodes 1 or twice a month if we are lucky and the only last about about 15-20 seconds.
I knwow how scared you must be. I would go see a paed if I were you just to make sure its noting like epilepsy or anything else. I was so releived to find out that Holly had normal brain functions and these fits had nothing to do with her mental development.
Hope I have helped.
Amy

OMG Tania,
You poor thing!! I would have been very stressed and upset also. I can not believe they just left you with nothing essentially as far as a possible diagnosis?!?!?!
I would go see a pead I think given they specialise in children. Mind you when I've had all these weight issues with Ayden I saw my GP as I knew that I could trust her reccomendations so maybe see what you think personally regarding your own GP or a pead.
I truly hope that you and Spencer get a good nights sleep tonight and that you are able to get some answers really soon.
Let me know if you need anything at all ok. I'll PM you soon about a catch up.
Good Luck.
