We're new to Canberra (having moved from Newcastle) and I'm not sure of which are the "good Schools" in the ACT. I just wish there was some sort of directory to help parents choose a school - something with a list of facilities, class numbers, curriculum etc. would be so helpful!!!

I'm just hoping someone out there might have some recommendations for good/great primary schools in Canberra... we are about to move to Hughes in Woden and I'm not sure about the local Hughes primary School for my 4yr old. We're not particularly religious, so not sure a private christian school is the way to go. If anyone has any ideas or experiences with Woden primary schools please let me know. Also is it hard to get kids into Kindergarten in the schools they aren't 'zoned' for?

I have heard Hughes is good, but its all just based on rumour - a real pain.

I met someone recently at a holiday activity who lives in Hughes and her main reason for not sending her DD there is that the uniform is black but the colours are actually black, white and turquoise. There is an Introductory English Centre at Hughes which has separate classes with integration on a case-by-case basis.
