Morning all,

I was wondering where is Canberra is the best place to buy cut flowers - which are affordable original.gif I don't want to go to a florist as they seem soooo expensive, and i've been disappointed lately in the quality of Woolworths/Coles flowers.

I'm particularly after oriental lilies, which I know I will have to pay more for at this time of year.

Thanks in advance!

(edited to add - southside or fyshwick preferably).

I went to a sort of warehouse out in Queanbeyan for all my wedding flowers. It cost me around $250 I think for all the roses, lilies and greenery as well as wire, spray and all that. This covered my bouquet (tear drop style), 4 brides maids and 8 button holes just to give you an idea of what the prices might be like.

I don't know if it is still there but there used to be a wholesale place behind the bonds warehouse in Fyshwich - down the alley. They deliver flowers as well.

I went there a few times and it was always good and a friend of mine used to swear by them (she now lives OS) I can try and find out the name if you want - I cannot remember it.

Yep I was coming in to recommend Poetry In Flowers as well. They have beautiful and more importantly affordable arrangements.

Nut - is that the place near Oaks Estate? I've seen the sign but never gone in - do you happen to know the name? biggrin.gif

Archie's mummy - I'm on my way over to Fyshwick this afternoon, I'll pop in and see if it still there biggrin.gif

Thanks HonkeyDonkey - I should have specified that I'm after something southside/fyshwick if possible.

Thanks ladies!

Yep that's the one. Can't think of the name off hand but I will see if I can find it.

Capital Flowers Plus

I am not 100% sure that is it but the address sounds right.

These guys stock pretty much everything. They supply some of the florists in the area too I think. You can also get all your arranging supplies there to.

oooh Kath, please tell me if you find anything at fyshwick, i'd be tempted to go in tomorrow, to pretty up the place for the weekend original.gif If that fails, I also noticed down stairs at Woden plaza near the escalators (bigw end) is a florist shop in the middle there, their prices seem very reasonable and affordable too.

HTH!

A friend of mine will only buy her cut flowers from Oaks. I know a guy who was delivering flowers to florists from the same place. The other wholesaler place was where my flowers for my wedding bouquet came from also.
Kath1978
Thanks Nut for that number - they are open from 8 am to 4.30 pm so when junior wakes up we'll be going for a drive original.gif
Princesspink
Did you have any luck Kath?

Hannah - I ended up going to Capital Flowers - they had absolutely FANTASTIC service, and a whole cool room full of flowers! The price was a tad more than Woolworths, but the quality was one hundred times better! It cost me $18 for a bunch of oriental lilies and $12 for some gorgeous carnations. The guy serving actually said also that the best days to come in are Wednesdays and Fridays, as that's when they get the major delivery come in (they do get fresh stock every day and he said that they actually supply about 90% of canberra florists).

I then went to go for a walk down (what he called) temptation alley and thought that I should leave that for a day that I don't have Junior with me laughing2.gif

So... I would definately recommend Capital Flowers original.gif

Thanks for the tip Nut grin.gif

Wiffens at the Fyshwick Fruit & Veg Market sells cut flowers. I have brought a few bunches and they do last over a week. There is a good variety. Not sure what constitutes cheap, but I had a quick look on Thursday and Lillies were under $20. The markets are open from Thurs to Sunday. A few ladies I work with regulary buy flowers from there and are alway happy. Also there are two florists behind Paragon Mall. I have asked around and apparently both are good.

Just reviving this to ask, does anyone know the name for the wholesale place at Fyshwick, not the QBN one?
