Hi all,

Does anyone know of any supermarkets that have trolleys with those red seats that have seatbelts? Woden said that they used to have them but they were all stolen??? I haven't had any luck finding them so I end up shopping with pram and basket. A bit annoying.

Anyone else have this problem?

When my DS was a baby I gave up trying to find them in Coles, they rarely had any available or if they did have any the straps were broken, they were filthy & were too small for a big load of groceries & trying to move them was a nightmare but with Woolworths I never had any trouble getting one & the straps always work & they are clean & easy to move. (I normally only shop in Queanbeyan)

I know Woolworths at Cooleman Court always has the ones with the little capsule thingys. DS is too big for them now..

I've complained to a couple of supermarkets about the state of their child seats, but I have bought a CleanShopper and it is fantastic!! All you have to do is find a trolley with a seat, pop the CleanShopper in, it has it's own seatbelt, bubs is safe and clean and not touching the gross handle. www.cleanshopper.com.au

hi,
I hate shopping trolleys. With my daughter i was to scared to use one because of all the germs and the fact that most of them were uncomfortable for her to sit in. I am due to have my second baby in january and have decided to invest in a clean shopper. They are padded and cover the whole seat and the handle bar and they have a built in seat beat. You can order them of their website.

Hope this will help

If you mean a "normal" shopping trolley with seat near the handle, I never have trouble finding one at Coles Woden or Woolies at Cooleman court which are the places I regularly do groceries, tho sometimes I have to have a bit of a search for one with a seat belt that will stay done up (the velcro ones are crap unless they are new). But will Emily stay sitting up in one?

I never liked the capsule trolleys and maybe only used them once or twice (be warned, City Market doesn't have these) so I would shop with DD in the sling and when she got older the backpack.

Hi there
Please don't get me started on shopping trolleys aas a mum to twins I have had a great problem finding twin trolleys for my little girls and most are broken and unuseable and I see you are worrying about a single trolley problem spare a thought for all the mutiple mums out there and mums of two small children close together and how hard it is to find a trolley for shopping with our children then think about asking the supermarkets to get more trolleys for us and maybe looking after the trolleys we used everyday and then we would have lots of trolleys for all of us to use.
Sorry for this vent but I am sick of people winging about single trolleys.
Thanks Rosie and Girls

On the hygiene issue, what's wrong with a quick wipe with a babywipe if it's that grotty?
They're going to handle far worse than the stuff that transfers to a trolley from people's hands...
No wonder we have an asthma epidemic.

Our local (lanyon) had few of the capsule ones although it was tough luck trying to ever get one. I dont think they are there any more, havent noticed one in a while, could be also that I am not really looking for one anymore.

We just packed DD in the sling as a little-littlie, now she to just goes in a clean shopper.

I was shopping in d*ckson at lunch today and a lady was fortuneate enough to get one - sad part was her DD in it was probably about 3!!! - That made me little cranky.

mumma-g
Oh,,, I also thought it was law not that all trolley's had to have seatbelts?

I'm with albajc on the hygiene thing! Once your baby is crawling and teething they are going to stick all sorts of things in their mouth, and crawl around on the floors at home where (unless you have a strict shoe-free household) goodness knows what gets walked in from outside/shopping/car etc - even more fun if you add pets to the equation!

Unless you wash/wipe your own hands every single time you touch your baby after handling groceries and money etc while out shopping, then IMO there's no point trying to "protect" them from germs on things like shopping trolleys.

I did see a funny thing recently at Cooleman Court - a mum carrying a clean shopper while her baby crawled around on the floor of the mall. I thought this was a bizarre anachronism until I then noticed she had a wipe in one hand ready to clean up the offending germs from baby - which I thought was even funnier! Yes I know, small things amuse small minds original.gif.

I didn't realise it would be such a discussion point

(sorry to put these older notes back at the top, I'm not always on - but am surprised at how quickly topics drop from the first few pages..blah blah)

I have used the sling a bit but don't have the strongest back, probably just needs more use. This trolley thing is not the end of the world if I can't find one, sorry Rosie, hats off to any parent - but multiples - you deserve a medal. BTW Steph I did mean the capsule one and TBH haven't even tried sitting Emily in one.

I agree with the germ comments too - I'm always surprised to see ads on tv with pineo-clean etc sprayed on toys then handed back to baby??? I'd rather a bit of dirt. (and no I don't live in a pig sty wink.gif

Cheers

Hi Jo,

Oh the capsule thingies - I have never seen them at Woden so not surprised to hear they don't have them. However I know they *do* have them at Woolies at Cooleman Court and Mawson.

Rosie, I think Mawson Woolies has twin seat trolleys. I think that particular shop has a huge variety of trolleys so it could be worth calling to ask - they even have one for wheelchair users!!

Have any of you actually stopped to think about what germs are actually on a shopping trolley? Studies and tests were done and batieria like enteroccocus facalies. Also they found mucus, blood and saliva.

A clean shopper is a very sensible thing to invest in when you think about the fact that a shopping trolley is dirtier then a public toilet.

All you mothers smirking at those who are concerned about things like Germs on trolleys need to stop and think.

I was reading a story about what a poor mother went through when her son almost died after contracting Pneumoccol from a shopping trolley. The thought of this should make everyone think twice before having a giggle over us mothers who are aparently "over reacting" about what you are saying is "just germs". So wake up and think about what harmful bacterias and deadly diseases there are out there that could so easily take our beautiful children from us.

Shame on you for saying they are "just a few germs", when they are so much more then that. Our babys mean far to much to us to take that risk.

Good on you all who have bought a clean shopper, use them and be proud that you are making sure your child dosent contract one of these deadly disease and that you wont say "just germs". Because they are far more then that.

To those of you saying "just germs" it is us that should be smirking at you!

Mummy to 11/2, I think you'll find that I wasn't saying there are no nasty bacteria on shopping trolleys, but that if you're going to have one of those 'clean shoppers', you'd better wipe your hands after handling money, using the EFTPOS machine, touching the escalator rail in the shopping mall etc etc before you touch your baby.

If you do ALL of that, and don't let your child play in the dirt or on the floor then you MIGHT have a point in buying a 'clean shopper', but otherwise your baby is getting exposed to all those nasty, nasty bacteria anyway. Short of dipping your child in bleach and keeping them in a bubble, they are going to encounter some nasty pathogens and the stronger their immune system when they do encounter something really nasty, the better.
And the odd freak incident does not nullify my argument.

And we were laughing because some people get worried about the shopping trolley but don't seem to worry about the floor, which is far more likely to have the nasties on it!

Hi,
I support some of the previous comments about clean shopper padded seat insert. But its not germ concerns that encouraged me to purchase. Its just so handy. Can put 7mth old son in a trolley facing me (like a pram) and can fit all the shopping in (including multiple boxes of nappies on special) without having to make a family excursion with dad or buying a bigger stroller. And there's a built in strap, so if he leans over too far and hits his head on the side, its padded. Plus he loves it when there's a few toys attached to chew on. Had used baby bjorn in past, but back hurts now.
Coles at Woden has baby capsule trolleys but was told there is only 1 or 2 per store (depending on store size/turnover)
Cheers Claretact

Here's my solution: get DH to mind bubs while you do the groceries or even better, homeshop. I used to take DS #1 grocery shopping and was there with the wipes all the time going yuck yuck yuck. It was much easier in the end just to do my groceries Sat morn with DH looking after DS#1 as he had started to do the shelf grab. I now take DS #1 with me while DH looks after DS #2 and #3. When we have a busy weekend planned I homeshop.

Catch up on the boys in my diary!

We tried home shopping once. For 18 items we got 10 plastic bags...

I actually never shop with DS. I go out and do the shopping on a Wednesday night while DH minds DS, tidies garden and makes dinner.
A lot easier all round...
