What do your children get given for after school care food...is it healthy?

Anyone???
melmonique
At my DD school they get given fresh fruit that is cut up.

Hi, you might want to give people more than 26 minutes to reply before asking "anyone" especially since you asked right at the time most of us are at school picking up our kids or the people who use after school care are at work and can't reply until later that night.

Answer to your question original.gif
My girls don't go to care, but the one of my friends kids go and they are given cut up fruit, piklets, juice and rice crackers. And the kids are allowed to eat anything left over from their lunch box.

LOL well there you go, sorry goesaround! I must learn to read properly biggrin.gif

I have just seen a few of your thread you have asked "anyone" without waiting enough time for people to reply. People will eventually reply to your post though, and if it hits the 3rd page, then might be the right time to bump it up to the front page, but maybe use something other than "anyone"?

Not trying to be rude, so please don't take it that way.

Yikes, some people do get a bit 'funny' when it comes to forums - I generally only look at recent forums myself and assumed that there are other people like me who wouldn't notice unless I bumped it - one other thread I used the word 'anyone' as a bump - it is amazing what other people find offensive - probably because you can't pick up tone via a forum. This issue is important to me and I was hoping to get a feel for what other people's children were receiving as my son's health is highly important to me.....I understand people are busy - I work, study and have three little ones 5 and under myself - what would you prefer I use next time instead of "anyone" - i have seen this used by other people and didn't have any negative associations with it unsure.gif

What food do they feed your son at after school care? Do you feel that it might not be fitting his needs? Or are you needing to pack his own afternoon snack and thats why you were asking here, for ideas? Your Child's nutrition is an important subject I agree.
Going with fruit is usually a good idea, dry nutragrain in a small container, sultanas with either dried apricot or apple pieces chopped up, rice crackers, rice or corn cake slices.

Generally on EB using the working "anyone" is considered bad netetiquette (rude), you are better off going with just the word "bump" (it is the more acceptable word) and people will see that you haven't gotten any replies and will reply original.gif

All after school cares will offer their own individual type of food, its just going to depend on who runs the care and what resources they have available, in terms of the budget of the care organisation, kitchen facilities and the skills and knowledge of the people in charge of planning and preparing the food.

My DD's afters food is varied and interesting and pretty healthy. They post menus on noticeboard's and I ask her what she ate. They have fried rice, noodles, sandwiches, milk, juice, water, fruit and lots of other things. Nothing solely junk foodish like lollies or chips (these things would cost too much probably).

If there is an after school care that you are thinking about using ask them what they provide. There are also usually parent committees on which you could express a need for healthy food, or offer to assist in menu planning.

Most schools and children's education institutions have pretty much jumped on the be healthy bandwagon, so you'll probably find the food it okay, though there is often some room for improvement.

Ooops, I've used "anyone" before. It's a genuine question as in "Yoo hoo, anyone out there have any thoughts/advice?"

Netiquette is a funny thing though isn't it. Clearly what one finds acceptable, others may not original.gif

Hi goesaround,

For the record, I do not find "anyone?" offensive or bad netetiquette at all in comparison to the word "bump". grin.gif
