Hello
So reading all the questions about waiting lists ,
should I be putting my name down for my baby ( due in
June 2006) for May 2007?

If yes any suggestions for places from Banks to Civic
I guess..Also if I put my name down for full time and
want to change to aprt time should that be a problem?

Thanks guys..
s-m
If a full time place comes up but you don't want full time then you could end up having to pay for the full time place unless they can find a family that wants your days off.

This week I was talking to Communities@Work and they told me they could offer me places (part time) straight away in any of their childcare centres in Tuggeranong (ie EXCEPT the one in Stirling which is what I wanted). Their info is at http://www.commsatwork.org/EarlyChildHood.htm

There won't be any harm in putting your name down too early I don't think. Keep in mind Communities@Work (and probably other centres too) want a fee to put you on the waiting list, which I don't think is refundable.

i would definently put your name down asap. I put my name down at a few centres last June (04) and i am STILL on the waiting list. So i don't think you can ever be too early!

I put my name down when I was 20 weeks and went back to work when DD was 10 months.
Here are a few tips -

Ring the centres every 2 months then start ringing every 2 weeks a couple of months before you want care.
(if you havet heard anything)

Even if you want full-time care, tick the part-time care option - I did this and was offered 4 days - if I had ticked full time only I wouldnt have even been called.

I originally had my name down to go back to work in January 05 and I heard back and was offered a spot at 4 places I had put my name down at. I later changed my return to work date to April and was lucky to get a spot as there is a lot of movement at most centres at the begining of the year as most of the children move rooms/age groups ect as it gets further into the year spots become harder to get as you have to wait for a child to leave - does that make sense?

My DD goes to Magic Treehouse in Braddon. I think it is excellent and am really happy with everything there.

Do put your name down now but dont start worrying too much. I am not sure the CC situation in Canberra is as bad as is made out but just make sure you stay in contact with the centres you put your name down at so you can monitor the situation.

Good luck
Shelly
