Just wondering if people give their kids Fish Oil tablets.
M grand-mother in law was saying that the kids should be taking them to balance their inner health system!!

If you use them why? What brand?

TIA

I was wondering this too after hearing so much about it on the news etc. My ds will only eat white crumbed or battered fish so doesn't really get any omega 3. He's only just 2 so was wondreing if he's too young to have them.

We give one to DD who is about 2.5yrs. They are only recommended for children over 3yrs because of them being a choke hazard I believe. The omega oils are important for the development of the myelin sheath that lies on the outside of nerves inside the brain, nothing to do with 'inner health'! biggrin.gif

I'd suggest doing a quick Google search on the benefits of omega oils in neural development of children.

You can buy little squirts fish oil in a squeezeable capsule.

Good for littler kids biggrin.gif

I've been giving Abbie Kid Smart Fish Oil since she was about 19 or 20 months old. The chemist rang the manufacturer and they said they were ok to give at that age as long as I don't give her the whole burstlet (choke hazard) but instead just twist off the tail and squirt the oil into her mouth. They are fruit flavoured and she doesn't seem to mind them, in fact she comes to me willingly when I ask her if she wants her "fishy vitamin". She is developmentally delayed and wasn't saying much (maybe 3 or 4 words) at the time but not long after starting the fish oil her vocabulary took off, now she's got over 100 words at 2.3. I'm not saying it was the fish oil.....and I'm not saying it wasn't wink.gif since she also sees a speech pathologist but I think every little thing helps, and she doesn't eat many things at all with omega 3 in them so IMO they can only be good for her even if they DON'T do all the things they are claimed to do.

Keira has been getting essential fatty acids supplemented since she was about 7 months old and had a problem with eczema. First she had Flaxseed Oil, but when I took her to a naturopath she recommended Fish Oil as it is a better anti-inflammatory than Flax. We get one from the naturopath, it's just an oil. I put it on her cereal in the morning and she doesn't even notice it.

She's doing really well on it. I was concerned about her speech. At 18 months she only had a couple of real words. Now (23 months) I can't count how many words she says, she'll parrot anything back at us. She's using two words together, sometimes three. Her moods are great too, and her skin is sooo much better.

I've been giving DS Eye Q fish oil ( its a liquid and I just stir it in his yoghurt) for over a year. I started after he suffered some nerve damage. We don't eat much fish at all and take Fish Oil myself so I was happy to give it to him.
