I have never seen that name before. I would have said Pee-lee.

A girl my cousin knows just called her little girl this name... i'e never seen it before either! Must say i dont mind it!

Pele (pron as it's written - pe-le) is the most famous soccer player in the world...not a name I would consider for anyone else...ever. And I'm not a soccer fan 
oh lol well there ya go!! i know nothing about any soccer players... hubbys family are soccer mad 
I read a biography on him when I was like 10... I forget it all now though. It's prn pe-le. they way it's written really.
Pele is an incredibly famous soccer player. It would be hard to get past that association for a lot of people.

I agree on the soccer thing. When I saw the title I thought uh-oh try hard soccer fan LOL!! Definitely wouldn't use it for a girl because of that.
It really should be written with an accent over the e - Pelé
