how long before you went in to labour?

I have just come from ob appt and am 34w 1d, and one baby has decided she might have had enough of being cramped.

They have both been head down for weeks and I am sure she engaged during the night on Sunday night, as I woke up with bad pelvic pain and had a record 6 wees in one night.

I really do not want them out yet and will head to hosp at the slightest niggle as they might be able to stop things.

Anyway, how long was it for you and what was your first sign?

I am feeling really excited that it might not be too long before I meet my babies but I really want them to stay put a little while longer. Guess I'm just needing to chat!

The 2nd time labour started with my twins @ 34 weeks (I had ruptured membranes at 29 weeks and they stopped the labour progressing) Twin A had already been engaged for 3 weeks.

Therefore, on my experience, you could still have a few weeks to go.

Fingers crossed for you that they stay put for a few more weeks so you can avoid the special care nursery. Just rest rest rest and have the mantra that there is nothing that others can not do for you.

Thanks joshuakalan for the reassurance.
I hope this is the case for me too.

From my very little experience with babies, I thought once membranes have ruptured that delivery needed to happen within 24 hours?

Did your babies need to stay long in special care at 34 weeks?

Thanks again

I PROM'd at 34wks and upon arriving at hospital was told they'd try and stop labour, but that either way I wasn't going home pregnant.

My girls weren't cooperating and were delivered by emerg c-section due to footling breech presentation of T1.

They spent 21 days in hospital - T2 was in ICN for 10 days, T1 only SCN. Unfortunately the steriods didn't have time to kick in so T2 was CPAP and ventilated for about 4 days. Also some time under phototherapy.

Had the steriods had time to do their thing it would have been purely staying to establish breastfeeding. NG tubes were in for 19 days.

Put yourself on the couch and stay there. Every day now is a bonus and a day less in SCN.

Twin A was engaged for nearly my entire pregnancy. His head was wedged in my pelvis and I didn't go into labour til 38 weeks (well my waters broke).

Thanks grub11 and vivera for the replies. I guess it just shows that anything could happen. Either way it's the couch for me!

grub11, I had Celestone injections (steroids) at 30 weeks. I am hoping that these will help my baby's lungs should they come soon. And what does PROM mean?

vivera, it's so great that you got to 38 weeks. My C/section is scheduled for when I am 38w2d. I would love to hold on til then but something is telling me that they'll be here before then.

Thanks again
Kerrie
