Hi Everyone

DH and I have always agreed on the below name should we ever have a little girl.

One thing we cant agree on however is the spelling;

What do you think?

Aleigha (my choice of spelling)
Aliya (DH choice of spelling)
Aleeya
Aleah
Aliyah

Is there any other alternatives for spelling? and which do you prefer?

Thanks
Mouth
I like Aleah
green apples
There is one in my DD's school spelt Aleeyah and I think I prefer that one the best.
BrindleGirl
Unfortunately Aleigha is my least favourite way of spelling it from your list sad.gif Perhaps thats only because I haven't seen it spelt that way before.

My fave/preferred way would be Aliyah or Aleeya

Lovely name! How are you pronouncing it?

If it's "ah-leea" with the emphasis on the "ah" I like the spelling Aaliyah, because I know a little girl with that name and she's a cutie.

If the pronunciation is "ah-lee-ah" with the emphasis on the "lee" then I like either Aleigha or Aleah.

Lovely either way - good luck!

I like the spelling Aleah best but I usually see it spelt Aaliyah.

~Nodnol~
Aaliyah or Aliya.

I really don't like Aleigha sorry.

I think that this name looks lovely spelt Aaliyah, I think to spell it any other way would take away from the beauty and uniqueness of this gorgeous name.

But if I had to choose from your list then I like Aleah, I have seen this name spelt A`Leah, I am unsure how I feel about that spelling though
Noddles
I prefer Aliyah. I dislike the spellng Aleigha (TBH I get a bit choked up in the back of my throat trying to pronounce it).
frana
Aaliyah was actually a name I picked if we had a girl original.gif
But I like Aleeyah out of the spellings you have. It's going to be less annoying I figure as it sounds how it is spelt IFYWIM. I HATE spelling my name out with a passion so I like to have things spelt the way the sound! tongue.gif
Lochsmum
I quite like Aliyah. Not a fan of the way you prefer....sorry!

Thanks girls. Mixed preferences original.gif

Its a gorgeous name we absolutely love!

Am starting to think though the poor thing will be forever spelling it out. There is way too many variations.

I do like the spelling Aaliyah though, have never seen it spelt like that before. Will have to run that spelling past DH and see what he thinks.

The double A and the silent H though, makes it almost definate she will be spelling her name out for the rest of her life though.. not sure I want that in a name.

May need to reconsider our first name choice and have Aaliyah as a middle name instead.

Thanks again.

Thats what we did with our dd's name for the exact reason.

Lovely name, but please don't spell it Aleigha. The a coming after the gh makes you want to pronounce the gh...ending up with something like Aleegghha. Yech.

My pick would be Aleah, or Aliya. The others are too R&B for my liking - does noone remember Aaliyah (pron long aa), the singer who died in a plane crash a few years ago?
Straight*No*Chaser
I personally think Aaliyah is the most common spelling. Aliyah is ok. I really dislike the other spellings.

For pronounciation sakes i'd go tongue.gif

Aleeya.

if your not worried about correcting people all the time i'd go for Aliya.

I would have to say 'Aleeya' as it is the easiest way to not to make a mistake with the pronunciation.

I think Aliya.

I don't like unneccesary H's at the end.

Agree with PP that Aleigha looks a bit funny, sorry.
Michaella
IMO Aaliyah and Aliya are two different names...

Aaliyah rhymes with Tahlia - Tar-lee-ah

Aliya sounds like Leah as in Princess Leah and "uh" at thh start.

If you are worried about her spelling it how about Ayla or Alice?
Amanda_JB
There is a little girl at Jake's kindy and her name is Aliyah original.gif
