Hi everyone!
We're about to put DS (19 months) into a big bed, and we're wondering if we should continue to use a sleeping bag, in case he gets up in the night and tries to walk etcetera. We were about to buy a lighter one, but are now wondering if we should get some sort of sleep suit instead. I don't think he is the sort of kid to happily sleep under a blanket unfortunately.
Any suggestions, especially for the warming weather ahead?

My DD is the same age. She sleeps in flannelette PJs with singlet and sometimes socks. I put her in the cot under a blanket but she rarely stays that way for long. I haven't used a sleeping bag since this time last year.

We moved our DD into her 'big' toddler bed a couple of months ago and she goes to be in her wondersuit - still- and usually ends up with only half her covers on her by morning. She moves around a lot in the bed, but she is starting to get the hang of staying under the covers and as the weather is getting warmer I don't think it will be as much of a problem. I wouldn't bother with the sleeping bag, I think 'adequate' pj's will suffice.

we find that on the (rare occasions) when ryan sleeps in his own bed he tends to stay under his covers even though he never did in his cot. when he sleeps in with us (most nights) we dress him in hardly anything so he doesn't overheat, yet he still rarely sleeps under the covers - go figure LOL

I'll go against the trend here and say that Ryan sleeps in his winter pj's and Grobag (2.5tog) in his big bed. This past week he has been requesting 'no doona' and on particularly warm (10 degree) nights I've put him in a t-shirt rather than winter pj top.
Ryan walks into my room every night or morning in his sleeping bag with no problem.
When the weather gets really warm I'll remove the sleeping bag, but that's not for a while!

I've never done the sleeping/gro bag thing but I made a bigger sleeping bag out of an old polyester doona and sheet. I used this for DS as he always kicked his sheets/blankets off.
I think I had my boys out all-in-ones by 18 months and they either wore flannie jammas with singlets and socks or long t-shirt style ones, until it was warm enough to wear little boys shorty style.
PM me if you want instructions on how I made the sleeping bag.

Thanks for you advice everyone. In the end, we started out in a sleeping bag, and then, paranoid about him getting out of bed and tripping over we put him into pj's one night and he just seemed to be more restless, waking up and not wanting to go back to sleep because of all the freedom to move about in his bed. And the blanket was a waste of time, it lasted for about 2 minutes, and that was tucked in! So I've ended up going back to the sleeping bag. Thanks for your email Alice. I've been wondering whether or not to buy the .5 tog sleeping bag, but if it is possible for them to move about in relative safety, I probably will.
