Can we assume everyone posting in here knows it is their baby and they can choose the name they like? Can we assume if they are asking for opinions then in some way it does matter what everyone else thinks?
I am sick of reading posts from people that end up with "but its your baby, you call it what you like, it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks"

Yeah don't ask for opinions unless you really want to hear them.

Sick of my replies being taken the wrong way.

I don't think I have been clear. I will amend my opening post.

Yes - they know.

LynnyP - it does sound rather ridiculous!

I'm sure I've said it before, but I *heart* you, LynnyP.
Also, can we all acknowledge that just because you know a gorgeous little boy or girl by a particular name, this does NOT make it a good name.

I don't know. I think there's a point to ending a post like that. It's a kind of perspective marker. It's, "You asked for my opinion, here it is, but I realise we're not debating the morality of infanticide here, so take it or leave it, up to you."
I guess it could get irritating to read it over and over, but it's the kind of thing you can mentally edit out, like "yours sincerely" on the end of a letter. That's what it is. It's like "yours sincerely" on the end of a letter. Just a courteous ending to a post, that's all.

I agree with beabea. To me its just a polite way of finishing your post. I don't think twice when I read it, its not a big deal to me at all. Just people trying to be polite I suppose...nothing wrong with a bit of courtesy.

I agree with the above posters, seems like a polite way to end a reply. The same as saying "that's just my opinion".
Some people feel under pressure from family or society in general who frown on their tastes in baby names and might just need that little bit of reassurance that their own opinion is more important.

Clumpy, a few of us are thinking of starting an Iheart LynnyP club, would you like to join?
