Hi,
I will be in Canberra next month. Does anybody know where the best yum cha restaurant in Canbera? Please tell me the complete address, as I am not from Canberra, and will always check my map, when I am there.
Thanks a lot.

There are now two yum cha restaurants in d*ckson, but I can't remember either of their names. Both were very yummy, though!

Hm...I have heard from my sister in-law, someone whom she knew ate in one of the d*ckson's yum cha resto, and found c*ckroach in one of the yum cha dish. They had to close down for inspection. I don't know if it's true, but we cancel our visit to any of yum cha resto in d*ckskon because of that. She wasn't sure which one was that.
There is a thread about the c*ckroach at Yum Cha on the RiotACT website. Under Food and Wine section, titled: Dining In, Running Out. I think the address is www.the-riotact.com/

Zeezee22:
I think the one in Northbourne Ave is already closed. Last month we went there, specially for yum cha...but very disappointed, as the building (was a motel) now changed into ING Bank. Bummer...all the way from Wagga Wagga...! Well..it's alright, just keep on looking.
Please give me more info on the one that's just open in d*ckson, and the szechuan style yum cha. I need the address, as I am not from Canberra.
Been thinking about making yum cha...sounds a good idea....The only thing that I know is making wonton. But it's a lot of hassle, isn't it? Don't mind to have the recipes though, if you have them handy.
Thanks a lot for the info.
Ibu: Thanks for the website, I'll check that.

I too am interested in this one. After a 5 year absence from Canberra and missing Yum Cha because we were in Alice Springs, we set off eagerly on our first week back and were very disappointed to find both restaurants we knew of had closed down. The Northbourne one was the best but seems to now be a construction site and there was another in the bottom of a carpark in civic, next to a bus interchange. (over on the law courts/uni side). We stumbled across the szechuan one in d*ckson and I would rate it as "OK". I have had much better Yum Cha in Brisbane and Sydney. The szechuan at d*ckson is at a small group of shops on Challis Street at the corner with Cape Street. Here's a map...

I'm not a connoisseur and I don't even need the full yum cha
experience, but I have been craving good, fresh, steamed
gow gees (not the yellow, shrivelled ones, I want the smooth
translucent white ones). Any filling would be welcome at this
point, but I can't even find these....short of driving to China
Town, Sydney :-(. I'll admit to not having looked here
extensively though. So, I'll keep trying.

Hi
There is great yum Cha at the Italio club in Forrest. I know that might sound a bit werid in an Italian club but they have a chinesse resturant up stairs. I think its on Saturdays. You could call the club and they would tranfer you up stairs for a booking and could give more details. The address is 75 Franklin Street Forrest ACT. They also have a really nice resturant down stairs as well. All the best, I hope that helps.

Hi Lara,
No I hadn't thought of doing that. I didn't even know there was
an asian grocer near Aldi...but I'll go and try and find it.
