My 3.9yr old son has picked up some terrible language (most likely from daycare). If he hears something he doesnt like, he tells people to "Shut it".

I have tried ignoring it, gently telling him to not say it as its a rude word..and even actually not talking to him if he says it.

What do I do? It looks horrible when a stranger says hi to him in the shopping centre and he tells them to shut it.

Help!

have a chat to daycare and see what they notice and sit back and have a good look of possible places his picking it up, my 3.8yr old DS has learnt to call everyone stupid lately and I notice it's coming from the cartoons him and DD are watching!! i find telling him they aren't nice words works but that's all the attention i give it, i don't go into a big conversation about it I don't totally ignore it too

I agree with PP, ask daycare. I spoke to daycare about DS (3) telling people to shut up, they hadn't noticed it at all. Turns out he got it from the movie Ice Age, which he watched over easter at Nan's house. Found out when he came and told me that Diego said the naughty words.
I have been telling him it isn't a nice thing to say to people.
