Joel
When I hear Spencer, I have two reactions. Firstly, it sounds too surnamey for me. Secondly, I can't help thinking of underwear! You know, the daggy ones you wear to keep you warm in winter.

Joel.
Spencer to me is more commonly used than Joel. I much prefer Joel, Spencer is still a surname to me which people have decided to use as a first name.

I prefer Joel.
I don't mind Spencer, it's just that I can't get past the fact it is a clothing item I think.
Joel.
I don't like Spencer, it reminds me of something but I cant remember what...

Spencer - I am a teacher and all the Spencer's I have met are adorable!
...so are the Joel's, but Spencer for me.
I also like Fletcher and Fraser. Just added them as they have 'er' on the end as well!
Good luck.

Spencer is the only surnamey name I like (maybe Fraser too), and I've never liked Joel.
I knew a lovely Spencer, but the Joels I've know just haven't impressed me...

Joel,
I like Spencer but I called a dog Spencer and the reactions and comments I got from people was terrible. So I never thought about calling my DS that when I was pregnant with him.

I really like Spencer. If I am lucky enough to have another boy one day, Spencer is at the top of our list!
I knew a Joel who I didn't really like so I'm afraid the name is tarnished for me!
Good luck.

Spencer

. And my son Spencer is NOT a singlet.
Spencer has been a traditional 'first' name for a long time, especially in the UK where it is really popular, and has been for some years.
Joel is a lovely name too, but they are quite different in style to choose between.

I find it amazing how people can read this thread, see that there are people answering who actually have children by either of the names and THEN say something offensive/hurtful about the name.
Is it really necessary to post that you think Spencer is a singlet straight after someone who has the name Spencer.
There are some flipping awful things that people have called their children but when asked an opinion of it you could just say you don't particularly like it or say nothing at all

dgoat: I was thinking the same thing as I posted that my son's name was Spencer.
Spencer is first and foremost a name, then it became the name of an item of clothing. People don't stop calling their kids John just because it's a slang term for a toilet.
I've had comments by family members " You've named your son after thermal underwear?" My reply to them is " Well he is snuggly and warm"
anzacgirl: my Spencer is nearly 3 as well! When is your little mans birthday?
