Hi,
My sister is moving down to canberra soon and needs to put her child in school, so I have a few questions.
Do you have to go to your 'nearest' public school?
Her child turned 5 in march but has been in child care until now, as we cant get her into child care she is going to try to put her in school, can she start this time of yr in kindy?
Can anyone give me opinions on schools in gungahlin?
thanks in advance
You don't have to go to your nearest public school, but that will be the only one that has to find you a spot (IYKWIM?).
I don't think it would be a problem getting her to start school at this time of year HOWEVER coming in to kindergarten from child care she will have missed 1/4 of the year? Probably something her parents should talk to the school about.
Maybe she'd be better off going to preschool this year and then moving to school next year? Or is child care an issue due to parents working?

Thanks for the reply steph.
My sister is a single parent and has to work full time to pay rent so needs to send to school and before / afters as she cant get child care. She realises that she will prob have to repeat kindy again next yr but doesnt mind.
Yeah I didn't think of that option - if the school will support her starting this year with the possibility of repeating if required.
