Has anyone seen our puppy dog? Well, hes not really a puppy anymore - hes 9 yrs old. Hes a rough collie - looks like Lassie. His name is Scottie, and he went missing yesterday afternoon in the thunderstorms. Usually, when I hear the thunder I go straight home and get to him before he runs away.
My sister, who is living with us, is on school holidays (shes 16), and it didn't occur to me to be explicit about keeping him inside while the thunderstorm is on as I thought she already knew. A few hours after the thunderstorm started I rang her to make sure she had him inside, and she said she did. Then she rang me back 5 mins later saying she had put him outside as he was bugging her - she thought he needed to pee (actually he just wanted a cuddle because of the thunder). He was gone and we can't find him.
I've rung the vet, vet hospital, RSPCA, and the pound but no luck yet. I'm about to go down to Coolamen Court to put up some Missing posters. We were watching some home videos of Zoe last night, and Scottie came on. Zoe got so upset because she couldn't find him. How do you tell an 18month old that hes gone? Anyway, I hope he turns up soon, but if everyone could keep their eyes peeled I'd appreciate it. I know its a long shot that someone on EB would find him, but you never know.
Take care,
Laura

Oh how sad for you - I hope he turns up.
I did not know whether to reply or not, because I did not want you to get excited seeing a reply and think someone had seen him.
I am guessing you are in the Weston Creek area? I am at work tonight, out of Woden, and my work involves driving around a lot - I will keep an eye out.

Hi Laura,
I hope your doggie comes home soon. Perhaps he just went to hide from the storm and then got distracted chasing kangaroos? At least if he turns up at a nearby house someone will know whose he is.
Laura lives at Mt Stromlo (lucky her!).

Hi Laura,
As a fellow dog lover and one that has lost her dog for a short time, I have a suggestion. Ring the radio stations, particularly Mix 106 and maybe one of the local AM stations (2CA or 2CC?) and ask them to announce details of your lost dog. We did this and the person who had found our dog was listening and immediately got in contact. We had our little dog bag within the hour.
I'm in the Weston Creek area too so I'll keep an eye out. If your dog turns up around here I'll try to coax him into our driveway and let you know ASAP.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you find him soon.
Cheers,
Helen.

Thankyou for your replies. Hes been found. A lady found him walking down the middle of Cotter Rd last night in the rain. Shes bringing him home to us (shes really sweet - I just wish I had a box of chocies to give her!).
Thankyou!

Oh Laura, that's great news. I'm really happy for you that he's been found. No doubt there's going to be one very spolit little pup here in Canberra this afternoon.

Cheers,
Helen.

Helen - definately will be spoilt. He spent the night at this lady's house in Curtin - who has 4 other dogs, so I think he even had fun (after the thunder anyway). He just did his usual "what, was I NOT supposed to go out???" look he does when he gets out after thunder. He did give me big cuddles though - very sweet. The only problem is that he smells a bit - I think the thunder really scared him!!!

I can well imagine the fun he had with those other dogs.

Just like when my little dog (long gone) went missing and the person who picked her up had a houseful of dogs.
Maybe give Aussie Pooch Mobile a call - a nice hydrobath might be good for both of you, ie. he gets even more spoiled and you are relieved of his smell.

Cheers,
Helen.

I was thinking that - re Aussie Pooch Mobile. They're great (in my opinion). The only thing is, they just came last friday - and hes going to get clippered friday week. I don't think I can put up with his smell for that long though!
Take care,
Laura

Is it Ruth from APM that normally washes your dog? Maybe explain to her what's happened and she might do a mini wash just to help get rid of the smell. PM me if you need her direct number.
Enjoy those doggy cuddles (with a peg on your nose in the meantime), lol.
Cheers,
Helen.

Hi Laura,
When we lost our pup I called Canberra Connect and they listed her on a website that is also connected to the pound.
By the next morning someone had actually listed her as found so we got her back
I suggest you call them ASAP
Good Luck

Thanks JosieA - I'll try that the next time (where I hope there won't be a next time, but probably will be!).
Helen - it is Ruth that normally washes Scottie. She has said, though, that Weston is getting to big for her now and shes getting another person on now to do Weston. Bit of a bummer, but I'm sure this other person is good too.
About his smell - it was actually something they fed him. Hes getting old now, so can't eat a lot of things like bones and raw meat. Anyway, he really was smelling quite bad. We kept the window open all night after going into the laundry where he sleeps and gagging. It was permiating through the whole house as well - it was sooo bad! Luckily my sister is home all day today and can leave all the doors and windows open to get rid of the smell.
take care,
Laura

Ruth had told me that she was selling off this part of her business and actually asked me last time if I was interested ... I would be (as I love dogs) but not now as I have a 17mo to look after. We've had her backup wash our dogs in the past and TBH I wouldn't have her back as the dogs started smelling within a day or so of the wash (which is totally not normal when Ruth washes them). Oh well, we'll try whoever takes over APM for this area but if they're not any good then I might have to resort to tackling our two large and energetic dogs myself.
Re. the smell. I can see that no dog wash is going to help this, you poor things. I don't know whether it's worth trying but sometimes ginger nut biscuits have been good for tummy upsets in dogs. Maybe this will help? I hope it settles down soon for all your sakes.
Cheers,
Helen.
