Hi all,
Just a quick question i had my scan today everything is great with bubs but on the report i got it says i have Mild maternal hydronephrosis.
I've tried googleing it but i dont understand the dr speak they use.
so does anyone know what it is?

From my vague memory (Im a medical scientist) anything with 'nephro' in it is talking about kidneys, so your kidneys may just be under a bit of strain from the pregnancy. Are you dehydrated from vomiting? If it was a concern they would do blood tests to check kidney function..I will just go and google it to check...
Hydronephrosis is also known as "swelling of the kidney" was one thing I found super quickly (my 8 yr old is up bugging me for a drink of water) anyway I am sure your OB will tell you about it, or bring it up with him.

I thought it also had something to do with the urine not emptying out of the bladder fully and then some going back to the kidneys as I had this problem once after a UTI and had to see a kidney specialist. That was years ago though.

Not sure if this is the same thing but a friend of mine was telling me yesterday she had her uterus pushing against the urine tract which put pressure on her kidneys.
