UPDATE: Phew - Took the leap! Found a lovely old piano for free on allclassifieds ( wub.gif ), it will be moving in next week, re-tuned, then ready to begin!
Now to ring the School of Music etc and find a teacher!
Very excited!!!!!

Just wondering if you have and if you had any difficulties, where you started etc? Is it too late?

I have always wanted to learn to play the Piano and Guitar, but as a child was instead handed a Flute wacko.gif then a Saxophone wacko.gif and while I enjoyed playing those, I am still yearning for the piano and guitar cry1.gif .

I know there are teachers that cater for different ages and levels, and CD's that teach you yourself...but I'm not sure where to start, or weather it's worth it (i.e can an old dog be taught new tricks, can my muddled after 2 children brain pick it up??? laughing2.gif )...anyone done it?

Thoughts???

Thank you!!!!
lovingmother
no i have not but i know that anyone would be able to teach you and the Piano will be easy for you as the notes are in treble clef as well.

Not a musical instrument, but I had always wanted to tap dance, so started lessons a few years ago. If I can do that, anyone can do anything so go for it!

Go for it! One of these days I would love to learn the piano.

My dad learnt to play the saxophone a couple of years ago so I figure if my dad can learn the an instrument as an adult, anyone can!

I am a clarinet teacher and have taught a few adult students.. yes, you can definitely learn! There are things you will find easier than a child (grasping concepts etc) and things that will probably take more time. Actually, I think the thing adults find the hardest and most frustrating is getting the time to practice! If you really want to do it, go for it; but think carefully if you will be able to find the time to practice because if you can't it won't be a good experience for you or the teacher blush.gif And definitely find a good teacher, even if you only want to have a lesson every 2 weeks rather than trying to learn from a book. Hope that helps original.gif

If you're looking for a good teacher, try the School of Music at ANU. They often have students there who teach for a bit of extra income.

Thanks for all the support and ideas ladies...it's much appreciated. The school of music to find a teacher sounds great! Might suit my budget more blush.gif
Hmm having a teacher does sound better the DIY doesn't it!

I played Clarinet for 7 years and now the sound of a clarinet is like nails down a chalk board.
Cant decide whether to sell my good clarinet or told onto it for the kids.
