Being new to the area I am still finding my feet.

I am interested in joining a concert/wind band (NOT BRASS).

Does anyone know who I can contact, the yellow and white pages are not that helpful at all.

While I'm not sure off hand, I have a contact who I'm sure would. I'll get back to you soon. In the meantime, good luck. Any preference for area?

Canberra School of Music may be able to help. I think there is also something called the Canberra City Band but I think it's mainly brass - could be wrong though.

Hi Jane,

There is a concert band called The Ginninderra Woodwind Band that the teachers from my boys High School are involved with. I can get details for you but probably not until after the school holidays.

Cheers

A while back, most of the town centres (Weston Creek, Tuggeranong etc) had concert bands. I was in the Tuggeranong one for a while, their website is:
http://levan.site.net.au/about.html
This site also details some of the local bands and orchestras:

I was also in the Canberra City Band many years ago, I remember that you have to audition for it, they are the 'premier' Canberra band (apart from the RMC military band of course!) who play at all the events. Their website is:
http://canberracityband.com/
Good luck finding one you like. Canberra is a very 'musical' city, so you should be able to find something. If all else fails, try the School of Music.

Oh, by the way, what do you play??
I wish I had time to play again! (I play tenor sax, but haven't for a while)
