What age does a toddler normally give up their day nap? DD is taking longer and longer to go down for her day naps...and she is fighting it.

I know DS gave up his when he was three, thats why im wondering if its to early for her to stop her day naps.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

My DD1 started fighting me around 18mths and DD2 was only 17mths when she started fighting them. DD3 (her twin) sometimes had day naps and sometimes didn't until about 3yrs. She probably would have kept having them longer though if she didn't know DD2 wasn't sleeping.

But it probably depends on what they do at night too. My girls seem to crash for 12 hours. So, I guess they just got enough at night.

i would try putting her to bed later. dd1 is now 2 and has a lovely 2 hour sleep if i put her down at 1 or 1:30pm.

DD1 dropped her nap at 2. DD2 was 2 in March and some days she naps, others she doesnt. If she doesnt nap she goes to bed 1.5-2 hrs earlier in the evening which is bliss (she is a little night owl and usually has a 830pm bedtime ) I think still having a day nap at 3 is more the exception to the norm. original.gif

DD1 gave it up at 17-18 months. I miss it original.gif

DD stopped day naps at 18mths, when her little brother was born.

DS is 15mths and is starting to not want to go down during the day aswell.

They are both in bed and asleep by 7pm.

DD was 26 months.

DD was 16 months, but she has quite often not slept all day since around 4 months.

My almost 3yo hasn't had a day sleep in probably close to 12 months. Although, he does sometimes have a nap at daycare (he only goes one day a week).

I wish he would nap! lol
But on the plus side, without a day nap he is asleep by 8pm at the latest. If he has any length of nap in the day, be it 20 minutes or two hours he is up until 9pm or so. I rather the no sleep during the day! tongue.gif

DD was about 18 months, but she never really required a lot of sleep. sad.gif

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies. She wakes up really early..im talking about 5.30am. So i normally put her down at 9.30am for her nap, this morning i put her down at 10am and she seemed to go down easier.

I might have a few more months of napping YAY! lol.

Thanks again original.gif

Colleen - You may actually find that by extending the time of day that she goes down for her nap she may actually start waking up a bit later for you in the morning and going down and falling asleep easier for the nap. Elisabeth Pantley mentions this on her website.

Whenever my two started waking before 7am I just put them down a bit later for their nap by 15 minutes each day and the issue would be sorted in about 4 days.
