Ladies, what do you think of Ebony or Sophie?
Is Sophie very common these days....I haven't heard Ebony around much?
thank you

Definitely Sophie. It is in the top 10 in most states, I think, but it's a lovely name.
Ebony I dislike. It's not a 'real' name IMO, and although I realise it was a long time ago I can't separate it from the horrible murder of
Ebony Simpson.
For a less common alternative with similar sounds, what about Phoebe?

Sophie is nice, but it is very popular. Personally, I prefer Sophia.
I'm not a fan of Ebony either.
How about:

Ebony is lovely, but Sophie is way too run-of-the-mill for my liking.

I love the name Sophie (but that's my name so I would). It is very popular these days.
Sophie wasn't very popular when I was born and yet out of a primary school of 900 with only 3 Sophie's across the entire school, all three of us were is the same year level. So personally I don't think it matters if the name is popular or not.
Ebony is a name I associate with women who have dark skin. I wanted to name our DD to-be Ebony but DF didn't think she'd be dark enough to get away with it. But that is just our opinion, the name itself is beautiful.
I also love the Phoebe, but DF didn't.

I really love Sophie

so that is definitely my pick. I would use it regardless of popularity.
Ebony is ok but I don't love it.

Sophie is lovely thats my DD's names, we chose it because it was always around but not too common, but I think maybe everyone else was thinking the same way, there's 3 at my DD's daycare all in the same room. I like Sophia but DH said no as he thought it suited a European looking child which we would deffinately not have.
Aimee is nice also.
Ebony just reminds me of Ebony and Ivory meaning black and white.
What about spelling it Sofie if you like the name but want to make sure she's not confussed with others. {just a thought}

Sophie definitely ... but then again, I'm biased.
Figured at the time of naming DD, Sophie has been around for so long, it is unlikely to go out of fashion any time soon.

It's funny that Sophie is so popular. I have a 3 yr old DS and he does playgroup, music, swimming and goes to pre-school and I haven't come accross any Sophie's as yet. Maybe it's his age though...will keep on plugging away. I actually really love "Abby", that is my all time favourite girls name but DH won't have a bar of it, such a shame.
