My darling 3.5 year old girl hasn't got much hair! cry1.gif

When she was born, she had tiny ringlets, it all fell out. We thought it would grow back... and we waited.... at 1 year old, everyone said, it'll grow.... we waited.... it's been 3.5 years and we're still waiting. sad.gif

She has never had a haircut. It's kindda fluffy, and sparse. It's not patchy. It's less than an inch long, and self adjusting (doesn't grow longer than that). It's also anti-gravity. My heart breaks everytime she asks when she's going to have long hair. Her brother has goes for a hair cut every 8 weeks - and she just can't wait.

I'm so sad for her. I tell her she's got funky hair - but soon, she'll realise too that it's just not growing.

Does anyone else out there have the same problem? Have you got a girl who finally had her hair grow only after she's 4? I just hope there is a solution or someone else out there on the same boat.

Thanks for hearing me out!

No advice for you, my daughter finally got hair around at 2.5 and I thought that was a long wait, so I can imagine what you're feeling.

Are there any tiny lightweight clips she could wear so at least she gets to use some accessories? Hopefully her hair grows soon, she must be really frustrated.

Hi there

I really feel for you and your little girl!!! My 2 year olds hair has only just started growing after a few trims. It thickened up and started growing in length.

Maybe worth taking her to the hairdresser and explaining maybe??

I think the PP idea of some little accessories is a good one. Also taking her to a hairdresser and having a "pretend" cut, just so she gets the experience. I would be a little concerned. If it is as you say and not growing AT ALL I would be tempted to discuss it with your GP next time you are there.

DD1 was born with thick hair that neverfell our. I had to use clips etc from 6 mths old. DD2 had very little, fine wispy hair but it has started to grow/thicken now that she is 2. She has had 2 hair cuts so far.

i would take her for a little trim, it helps with thicking hair

My niece was exactly the same OP. She is now 4.5 & has just enough hair to put a clip or two in it. Everyone still thinks she's a baby. tongue.gif

My advice would be to take her to the hairdresser for a cut/trim!!!

A hairdresser told me until a child has their first haircut, they dont usually get rid of their 'baby' hair but once it cuts it helps regrowth & thickening

I was nearly completely bald until I was 3 blink.gif but I have heaps of hair now grin.gif . Hopefully your DD will start sprouting some soon.

Our friends DD was like this - they shaved her head ohmy.gif

It did grow back thicker and stronger though but it was about a full year of her being mistaken for a boy.

Thank you all for your supporting comments and suggestion. I have made an appointment to see a specialist - but the waiting list is long, and we will only get an appointment in August.... that's when she turns 4. sad.gif

Wish me luck! And pray it'll grow at least another 1 mm by then! hands.gif

I work with a Chinese lady and she shaved her children's heads. Apparently it is the norm and the hair does grow back thicker and faster.

Maybe you could shave a patch at the back near her neck and see what happens???????

Funny thing is that I am Chinese too. And I've been told by countless that I should do that. I've tried the patch test and cut a bit of her hair off.... didn't really work. It just self adjusted back to the same length of about 1 cm.

It's pretty unusual hair for Chinese. It's fluffy, and light brown and curly. Both my DH and I have thick, black, straight hair.

Thanks again!
