Fortel Ultra -
1 out of 10. Have given me false positives on many many occasions (all with colour and all withing 10 minutes). Funnily enough I do still use them occasionally but would NEVER trust a BFP with them!!! Costs around $13 for 2pack.
Pregnosis (both midstream and the dip kind) -
0 out of 10. They give me false positives or evap lines every time. Again, would NEVER believe a BFP given with this test brand! Costs around $13 for 2 pack, less for the dip sticks. Just wanted to add, that last month I used the dip stick of this brand again and a BFP came up within the first minute of the test being in the urine, with both tests!. It clearly showed a blue line and a BFP that I would not doubt if it had been any other test. I was NOT pregnant!!!!!! It was not an evap line, definately a blue line as clear as day and viewable at an arms length. Oh and did I mention that AF showed up half an hour later??!!!! WTF?
First Response -
10/10 - nice white space when BFN, never had an evap line or false hope with them. Costs around $14 for a 3 pack.
Fortel Forelife Extra -
Big fat 0/10 - They have just changed their sensitivity of this test to 10miu (July 07) and they now give out coloured evap lines on practically EVERY test. Spewing as I used to love them before they changed to become more sensitive. Don't bother wasting your money on this test, all it will give you is frustration and heartache!!!! Just beware that some of the posts and ratings in this section in regards to this particular test were written before they changed sensitivity.
Assurance Plus -
10/10 - my new faves, again no false hope!!!! Costs around $12 for a two pack. Less for the dip sticks.
Discover Onestep -
7/10 - still a fave, but have had a pack that had two faulty tests, both showing me false positives/evap lines with colour that came up within the 10 min mark. Would trust a BFP with them, but might retest with another brand just to be sure. Costs around $17 for a two pack. Less for the dip sticks.
Pregnow -
6/10 - I like them, haven't had many evap lines with them, but I don't expect them to show me a BFP before at least 12dpo, even though I start testing with them earlier. Costs around $10 for a 10 pack of dip sticks, $30 for a 50 pack of dip sticks.
Crystal Clear -
5/10 - I do remember getting my BFP with this brand with DS, but I have had false hope with them this time around so am wary (evap lines with colour that came up before 10min). Costs around $10 - $15 a pack of two.
Confirm -
10/10 - again no false hope. Costs around $14 for two pack
Clear Blue Digital -
10/10 - can't argue with a "not pregnant". Just don't forget you are not supposed to look at the stick, as it may have two lines regardless of whether you are preg or not. Costs around $20 for two pack.
Just so you know, I have not had a BFP with any of these brands in the past months while TTC#2, so am rating them on how they have been while testing and getting BFNs. The false positives I got were not chem pregnancies, as I was retesting with a few tests on the same day and all BFNs. I also found that when getting false positives, they were worse when you dipped the stick according to the instructions, rather than peeing on them. Might be worth taking into consideration when you are testing. Again, most of the false positives came when testing very early, before 10dpo mainly. So my advice - don't waste your money using a HPT before 12dpo unless you are literally throwing up with morning sickness!!! Babydust to all

Fortel Ultra:
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? Not sure
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? NA I doubt legitament results are possible with this dredded brand LOL
4. Rate the test out of 10. 0
Note: The reason I say not sure about the evap line is cos I got a faint line at 11 & 12 DPO but it was grey in colour and I had to hold it in certain lights to see it and it bacame darker as time went on (I'm talking hours here) but it turns out I was pregnant so I will never know if it was an evap or if these tests just don;t show much colour in their lines. In which case I say not worth the hassle as I got a positive on another test on the same day that was a million times easier to read so I had a comparrison to work with

2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? Faint + 12DPO, id say Legit at 13 DPO though as it was darker
4. Rate the test out of 10. 8 While I find tham reliable I think the lines are too thin, both the test & control.
Pregnosis Instream:
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 12 DPO I got a definate neg at 10DPO, no trace of a second line at all so I had this to compare to.
4. Rate the test out of 10 10 I think I find the pale blue lines of this brand much easier to see than the pink ones.
Confirm:
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 14DPO (day I was due for AF)
4. Rate the test out of 10. 10 The lines appear darker and thicker on this test. The pink is more a dark pink/purple rather than pale pink so easier to read. This is my fav brand and will go straight to this one if there is a next time.

Ovunow OPK's
Price 9/10 (can't remember exactly how much for how many but I know they are pretty cheap compared to others I guess since you are buying in bulk?)
Accuracy 7/10 (took 3 months to get a true + OPK, had to use one every few hours to catch the surge - lucky they are cheap and in bulk! Trying to figure out the OPK line in comparison to the control line and weather it = +OPK also does your head in!)
ETA Haven't used any other brands so nothing to compare it to

Thanks Nut!
Ovunow - (Internet cheapies)
I find these tests to be quite accurate and have received many +'s on them but with each test sometimes having different control line thickness/colour, because of this I find them a little hard to read in determining a TRUE +.
I'd rate them
8 out of 10These are the only tests I have used so far...Interested in hearing from those who have used ClearBlue Digital O tests...?

Confirm Kit - about
$20 from Coles -
9/10 (I'd give them 10 but they are a bit pricey so they only get a 9!) - these are my favourites. You get 5 OPKs and a HPT in the kit, and they are the cassette style where you use a dropper to put in 3 drops of urine rather than dipping them. I find them to be the most sensitive and give me a + everytime without a doubt. Will be going back to using these again this cycle as they are the most reliable.
Fortel Kit - about
$18 from Coles -
4/10 - I am fairly sure you get about 7 OPKs and a HPT with these ones. They are also the cassette style test, but I didn't find that they are as sensitive as the Confirm ones. I think I did get a + on some of the tests, but it usually snuck up on you without many faint lines before it (showed no line at all most of the tests prior to O). I know I definately missed my surge on this test, that is when I stopped using them.
Ovunowinternet cheapies -
50 for
$40 from
Fertility Natropath or
Ebay -
8/10 - my second favourite brand. These are the thin dip stick kind, and they do sometimes get indent spots on them, but for less than a buck a test you can't go wrong! I do find them about the same sensitivity as the Confirm tests, but cheaper. I'd use these all the time if I was organised enough to order them in time, LOL.
Lullaby Conception internet cheapies -
30 for
$30 from
Lullaby Concetion -
6/10 - I used these for the first time last cycle. They are also the thin dip stick kind. I didn't get any faulty tests in the pack, but I did find that the test is less sensitive than the Confirm or Ovunows. The packet states 20mIu, but the + I got wasn't as dark as the control line, but it was the darkest line that I got. So keep in mind that your surge might be detected with a less than + opk with this brand, but that doesn't mean that you didn't O. When the line starts to darken, BD BD BD, and don't stop until a few days after it goes light again.
First Response OPKs - About
$20 from Woolworths, 5 or 7 in a pack? -
5/10 - I vaguely remember using a few of these way back. They are the dip kind, but thicker than the IC's. I didn't find they were all that senstive, about the same as the Fortel ones.

Ovunow (internet cheapy).
- 9/10I also bought mine from Fertility naturopath. There were the 1st brand of OPKs I used. Since you get so many I was using 3 a day to detect ovulation. I alway got a very strong +ve test result which increased in intensity and then disappeared. These results also matched perfectly with CM and FF temping. I was very confident that I was getting a true +ve when I did.
Clearblue digital ovulation kit - 6/10 (purely based on price - very expensive at over $10 a test

).
I had run out of Ovunow test strips as I ovulated 4 days later that expected one cycle. After going to 3 pharmacies and supermarkets this was all I could get my hands on. I was desperate as I didn't want to miss the surge. On my first test I got a smiley face (+ve). Haven't tested again using them as they are so expensive.

i have used a few
ovunow 9/10
they are good and nice and cheap have had a few that were hard to read due to the ink running.
clearblue digital 10/10
pricey yest but who can argue with the smiley face or no smiley face, there is no guess work involved!!!
ovuplan 6/10
i didnt really like these at all hard to read and a little pricey
Hi,
This is based on my current tracking cycle - so I am having blood tests and u/s to see how everything is progressing. I am a POAS addict so I couldn't help myself and have been using OPKs as well.
Confirm - 8/10. Got positive OPKs 3 times with Confirm in the past - ie dark as or darker than control line. This cycle my only problem was that I had one leftover that I used 6 days ago which gave a medium coloured line (so negative) but I assumed that it was an indication that something might be happening as the line was quite dark... I had a blood test done and my hormones had not changed at all from Cycle Day 2....so nothing was happening.
First Response - 4/10. I have had a strong positive once before with First Response.... but this cycle... comparing it to my blood tests....
Day 1 of testing - nothing (blood test nothing)
Day 2 of testing - nothing
Day 3 of testing - dark line positive OPK
Day 4 of testing - nothing
Day 5 of testing - nothing (blood test some changes)
Day 6 of testing - nothing (blood test rising hormones, U/S - 2 x 12mm follies, and one 23mm follie)
Day 7 of testing - nothing.
According to my FN I should ovulate on Day 7/8 which is 3-4 days after what my OPK indicated. So she recommended we BD day 6,7 and the next couple of days.
Guess this just means that you need to make sure you still BD every other day (or more) for up to the next 5 -6 days after.

The only opk that I have used is the digital clear blue. I know that they are expensive but if you want to know when o is going to be resulting in a BFP i don't think you can put a price on that. They are great only used them twice. Its simple smiley face or none.

Ovunow 9/10(internet cheapies) box 50 is $39.95.
Great for using lots and lots.
Confirm 9/10 Easy to use. Clear screen to view results.
Clearblue Digital 10/10 My favourite but they are expensive at aroung $54 a box of 7. But you get a smiley face when you reach your two most fertile days. I use the cheaper ones when I am testing just in case and use these ones when I am approaching O say 3/4 days before O is due.

Okay so after madly testing for the past 12 cycles, think I am probably qualified to answer the HPTS ones now
Confirm1. I had an evaporation line once, but I looked at it at 15minutes
2. No false positives
3. Legitimate result? Very faint at 10dpo (like a shadow), but convincing at 13dpo
8/10 Good, but not for early testing
Clear blue digital Got my "pregnant" at 13dpo (HCG on blood test was only about 25)
10/10 but only from 13dpo (had been getting faint BFPS on others from 10dpo)
First response-Early result1. Never any evapoation lines, and this is the test I have used at least 50 times!
2. Never any false positives
3. I started getting lines at 10dpo, after a BFN at 9dpo the BFP was pretty convincing at 11dpo.
4.
10/10 I found them to be very reliable and were great for when I got my BFP early. My HCG was only about 10 when it showed a faint BFP

Hi there,
I can add to this now since my BFP was confirmed with a "nice" HCG 15dop of 232!!
Pregnosis
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 9dpo
Overall - 5/10 cause the line is ambiguous in the beginning
Elevit
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 13 dpo
Overall - a good test for a less sensitive detection (7/10)
Discover one test
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 10DPO
Overall - 9/10 its a great test cause the line comes up nice and clear pretty early on!!!
Assurance
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 10dpo but very hard to read
Overall - 6/10 not particularly easy to read at all - window is curved and hard to see!!!

First Response
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? NO
2. Have you experienced false positives? NO
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 9DPO with evening wee!!!
Overall10/10- a fantastic test. Great price, available from supermarkets. Have never experienced any evap lines, a neg is clearly a neg. Very sensitive test.
Clearblue Digital
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? N/A
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 13 DPO
Overall 8/10 - a bit more expensive than most tests but worth it for the reassurance of seeing the word "pregnant".
Discover One Step (midstream, not dipper)
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 13DPO
Overall7/10- very similar to First Response, so I don't understand why you'd pay more for this test. If it's the only one available though, go for it!
Crystal Clear
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 10DPO (quite faint, would not have been 100% sure if this was my only test). 11DPO it was definitely positive.
Overall 7/10 I find the blue dye tests can be a bit more difficult to read as the dye goes all streaky
Confirm
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? Yes but they were after 10 mins have passed
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 13DPO
Overall4/10 I know other people love this test but I found other tests gave me a clear positive much earlier. Also with Confirm there often is an evap line after 10 mins, whilst if you follow the instructions this is not a "false pos", it is annoying if you like to keep the test and look at it later. Other tests I've had stay the same after 10 mins and I think that's better.
Pregnosis
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? Well after 14DPO
Overall3/10 I tested when I was about 6 weeks pregnant and it still wasn't really clear!

2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? n/a
Overall 8/10 - I tested at 11dpo FMU and got a BFN - it was very clear. Prefer tests with caps for absorbent pad.
FIRST RESPONSE
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? No
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 14DPO in afternoon.
Overall 9/10 The line came up almost straight away, but the pg line is much fainter than the test line, which makes one doubt . . . the result

Easy to follow instructions, which also reassure one about this very thing - ie 'it does not matter if the line is not as dark - you are stll pregnant'!!

First Response
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? Yes - they can give some nasty evaps, but they are quite obviously clear / indents and have no colour.
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 10dpo
4. Rate the test out of 10. 8 - very sensitive (gave me a positive when my HCG was only 9 and a chemical pregnancy), but give so many evaps that they can be misleading at times.
Confirm
1. Have you experienced evaporation lines? Yes, but barely there and very skinny - there was no mistaking them for a BFP
2. Have you experienced false positives? No
3. If applicable, how early did you get a legitimate + result? 10dpo (but veeeerrrrry faint) - I wouldn't count this as a positive unless I had had positives on another brand on the same day
4. Rate the test out of 10. 10 - I only got a barely there positive with this test as my HCG never got high enough to give me a great result, and I like the fact they aren't overly sensitive. When I get a positive with this brand in future I'll know I'm definitely pregnant with a nice amount of HCG.

We have been trying to conceive bub no. 3 for about 6 months. Had one very early miscarriage (5 weeks)in Jan 2008. Then purchased Ovunow strips online thru Fertility Solutions -used them for one cycle! I'm thrilled. Wasn't as impressed with the Pregnow HPT's though. Didn't register even a faint positive even though I was led to believe they were about most sensitive available.
