After many of my name suggestions being turned down flatly by DH - he mentioned one yesterday to me that I can't instantly dismiss... Ewan.

My biggest concern is the pronunciation of it - I would say "you-when" which I thought was the only way. Has anyone had any experience with this name (either for their DS, nephew etc) and did it cause problems for them saying or spelling it??

I would also gladly appreciate any suggestions for a middle name. Our surname starts with "R" and is one syllable. I've suggested Thomas to DH but he doesn't like...

Do you think Ewan would go with our existing kidlets names - Hayley and Jake?? I know that doesn't matter but still curious on your thoughts all the same wink.gif

Thanks in advance for any replies original.gif

I like Ewan well enough, although, I do prefer Evan. The only niggle I have with Ewan, is that I was think it sounds like 'you and' for eg, if you named him Ewan Thomas, I think for a split second that you were saying, 'you and Thomas... go to the shop?' - slight issue (prob just me blush.gif )

I think Hayley, Jake and Ewan sound really nice together!
I like your suggestion of Ewan Thomas, pity DH doesn't like it!

How about:
Ewan Gareth
Ewan Samuel
Ewan Ryan
Ewan Oliver
Ewan Harrison
Ewan James wub.gif
Ewan Isaac
Ewan Taylor
Ewan Maxwell
Ewan Jordan
Ewan Benjamin
Ewan Matthew
Ewan Wyatt
Ewan Christopher
Ewan David
Ewan Lewis
Ewan Tobias
Ewan Xavier
Ewan Nicholas

I think it's nice. In terms of pronunciation issues the only thing I can think of is people misreading it as Evan.

I like Ewan (Ewan McGregor wub.gif) and I am also a fan of Ethan.

I grew up with the surname McEwen and I can tell you that everyone knows how to pronounce it. You will not have any problem with that.

I'm obviously biased but I think its an absolutely gorgeous name

I like Euan slightly more than Ewan, but both versions are fine.

Good name. NOt too common in Australia ATM.
Al.Packer
I like it, but I do prefer Evan, sorry!

I really like it. It is one of the names that we couldn't have used due to A's last name, but that shouldn't stop anyone else!
boy0hboy
We have a Ewan Jacob and everyone pronounces it correctly. He is now almost 4 and can say his name fine.

The only people who had trouble with it were my Italian grandparents - they wrote on one of his birthday cards "Happy Birthday You"!! I can't believe they thought we called our baby You!! laughing2.gif

I love the name and think Ewan McGregor is a great person to share a name with!

Thank you so much for all of your replies. They are greatly appreciated! original.gif

I'm still debating the names with DH at the moment so I can't guarantee this one will stay on our list but I definately have some choices to go back to DH with now! original.gif

I also love the name because of Ewan McGregor wub.gif DH and I both loved him on the "Long Way Round" DVD series and I think he is such a down-to-earth guy. I had a new-found respect for him as a person after watching him on that series. Oh... and he's pretty easy on the eye too I think wink.gif

hola - I hear you on the "you and.." thing. As soon as i read your post and then the names after it I didn't mean to but I started saying in my head "You and..." I still like it though wink.gif

boo*yeah - I also love Ethan as a name too but DH does not like at all! sad.gif

mary23 - how did the grandparents get that wrong?! Oops!

I also like the name Jordan as well (which DH also likes) so now trying to think of middle names for that too - I still like Thomas as a middle name... Jordan Thomas. DH still not sure on that as mn. I just don't want to have his family think we named bub-2-be after Michael Jordan as DH was a big fan in his younger days. I guess that's why I avoided it as a suggestion for DS. I'm blessed to have IL's who like to irk me on little petty things blush.gif Oh well...

Have a great day everyone! original.gif
~Nix~
Ewan goes great with your other kids names biggrin.gif

I love your choice of Jordan.. but then i am bias laughing2.gif We are having Jordan Anthony
Lambie
Another suggestion- Huon original.gif I really like it, it sounds like Ewan but slightly different and Ewan always makes me think 'Ew'

I don't mind it.

I had a boyfriend named Ewan who I called Ewww-an. That's the only thing I can think of in terms of being teased etc.
--hola--
I LOVE Jordan 100x more than Ewan! blush.gif blush.gif

I think Jordan Thomas is nice!

How about:
Jordan Ezra
Jordan Oliver
Jordan James
Jordan Samuel
Jordan Everett
Jordan Harrison
Jordan Matthew
Jordan Patrick
Jordan Riley
Jordan Noah

Jordan Tyler
Jordan Owen
Jordan Nathaniel
