as R is in surgery at 1pm at CJJH. I am very nervous, he's only 10 months old... I just have to keep thinking about once he's recovered and healed, we don't have to worry about him stopping breathing from sleep apneoa through the night... It's doing my head in
Tanya
*Update* due to a possible genetic condition he has, the anaesthetist just rang me - she is concerned that he might have problems after the surgery and might need to be monitored in ICU, CJJMH doesn't take children in their ICU so it might have to be rescheduled at TCH OMG!! Stay tuned....

*2nd Update* Looks like it will be 1pm on Thursday at Canberra Hospital. I find out for sure tomorrow afternoon... Thanks for all your well wishes...

I can understand your worry as I'd be feeling very like you if DD (who is a few months older) was having surgery. I'm sure all will go well and the benefits will be worth the risk. But I will have you, your family and the brave little patient in my prayers tomorrow.
Will definitely be thinking of you all tomorrow.

Tanya,
I will be at CJJMH tomorrow also. DS is booked in for tonsils, adnoids and grommets. We have to be there at 7am, not sure what time his actual surgery will be though. I too am hoping everything will be ok. Will be thinking of you later in the day.

Will be thinking of you and your family.
We're going through this atm,DD2 had surgery 2 weeks ago for her sleep aponea and is only just recovering nowish back to a much better normal, now for me to stop my automated wake ups all night
Hopefully R's age will work in favour after surgery cause he might just sleep and be easy to entertain with videos etc
I got kick and screamed at and she was so frustrated, where as when she was 12 months and broke her arm and had surgery for that she was so much easier to amuse and soothe.
Feeling for you at this very hard time, but as you said keep thinking of the moment you realise his breathing properly and having a restful peaceful sleep it is bliss!
Lots of love and hugs xoxo
Tracy.

Tanya, so sorry to hear Riley's surgery has been put off. There is nothing harder than preparing for your child's surgery and for it to be postponed, it is totally heartbreaking in so many ways.
IMHO though, TCH is probably a better hospital for his surgery, as it will be a little more complex, so I would try look at it as a positive. I personally wouldn't trust anywhere else in the ACT with DD! They have the right equipment, staff and training for any peadiatric issue, which the private hospital's aren't equipped for.
Hope you get a new date soon, will keep you in our thoughts.
Tan
ETA - Just read your update and we will be def thinking of you all on Thursday, he will be in the best hands.

Wishing you all the best for Thursday. After just coming home from CJJ, I think for littlies, TCH is a better place (no personal experience at TCH though).
Everything seems to have gone ok with DS. They had a DVD/Video, Playstation etc in the room to share amongst 4 beds, but not much more. There was also a children's menu. Waiting for surgery was the longest part. Had a lovely anethetist, who took great care of him.
Best of luck...Sharkie

Finally - home today! Riley got through the op like a little champion - only a few hours after (with some strong painkillers on board) was drinking milk and eating 2 bowlsful of custard! What a relief!

Thank you so much everyone for your well wishes, it helped me get through that very long 1/2 hr of surgery...
Many hugs
