Hi Ladies,
A silly question here. We are going to hire a car capsule for our baby (new born). We have been told by kids safe to call up and make an appointment to get it fitted when we need it. Did you ladies do this when you had given birth (ie in hospital), or the week before you were due, or some other time? I wondered if there is ever a *rush* on capsules and supply cannot meet demand. I really don't want to have to fork out mega bucks to buy one of these if we somehow can't hire. This is one of those things that has been bugging me
Thanks ladies,
Nicole

You can call Kidsafe any time to reserve a capsule. They usually arrange to fit it for you 2w before your due date - if baby arrives before this and you're going to TCH you can organise to pick it up one morning at the hospital.
I would get it before you are due, that way you will have time and a bit of head space to remember what they say about putting baby in it and time to read the info they give you to take home (a little brochure plus a copy of the manual). After baby arrives you will be too dog tired to pay attention.
Keep in mind that if your child hasn't upgraded from the capsule by the time your 6m hire period finishes, you can extend it simply by calling Kidsafe and they don't charge any extra - so it's not like getting it early will cost you more.

I agree with what Steph said and also wanted to add that I
don't think Kidsafe would run out of capsules. Last year, we
picked ours up approx 2 weeks before DD was born, and
even though JJMH had an overflow of labouring women
soon after we went in (they started redirecting to
Calvary)...Kidsafe still had piles of the capsules.

I got mine installed a month before my due date. The six month hire period is calculated from the due date, so you're not being charged for the period before the baby is born (I hope this makes sense).

Hi Nicole
I rang kidsafe in March this year to enquire about capsules we needed for September for our triplets & they told us they only had a certain number of capsules available for hire each month & that we should put our names down ASAP & then could pick it up in September, which we will do next month.
I also wasnt sure if 3 capsules would fit in our car so we made a special trip to get fitted early & I noticed when we put our name down for September, they allready had 1/2 page of bookings.
If I were you, I would ring them now & put your name down now (it costs nothing to do this) & then when you pick it up, they will fit it then.
Cheers, Lilymurray
