Has anyone had any experience with Bark Busters, or any other programs to stop their dog from barking? Please PM if preferred.

Thanks original.gif

We use Bark Busters for our two dogs ever since the eldest one was a pup (and he's an 8yo now) and we're very happy with their training methods. original.gif

I was talking to the lady that makes dog coats for the markets, she was saying that her poor dog had to be put down because she was using the bark buster collar and it sent it crazy. It started snarling and biting when she went to put the collar on. You also cant leave the collars on all the time, so you have to go out and put it on when its barking. (apparently)

Have you thought about why your dog is barking Jo? As in, are they seeing something at night?, Barking for attention, separation anxiety? Medical, a dog thats getting senile?

Are you still a member of the training club? 1 year membership from first payment.. Maybe that could help?

The Bark Buster "collar" is the universal check chain, the same sort that anyone can buy in a pet shop or any other general store that happens to sell pet products like leads and the like.

The first thing that we were taught by our Bark Busters trainer was to never ever leave a check chain on an unsupervised dog. This is because it is pretty easy for the dangling end of the check chain to get caught on something in the yard and as the dog panics to get free can cause itself a serious injury or worse. Our dogs only have the check chains on for walks, for training and for their APM dog wash time.

The other thing was to ensure that the dog saw the check chain as a sign of a good time with it's owner. If the dog rejected the check chain at any time then you had to go back to basics to reassure the dog that there was nothing bad about it. Lucky for us our older dog loves his check chain and gets really excited whenever we get it out as he knows we're probably going for a walk. Our younger dog is a little more reluctant but then she was an abused pup and has fear issues anyway. But she's getting alot better and at least doesn't run away or hide when we try to put hers on.

As for the barking issue - there are numerous reasons why dogs will bark and there are many solutions that Bark Busters offer. A good starting point is to try to identify the specific cause in your dog's case. Or if you already know then feel free to PM me and I'll see what our training guide recommends. original.gif

Helen - Thanks, I have PMed you.

Hannah - Bark busters are dog trainers, they give you training advice for your specific situation. I do have some idea as to why she barks, I just don't know how to fix it! I have heard about collars you can buy, but I would prefer to get to the root of the problem and get a permanant fix.

Our neighbours called in Bark Busters to help with their three dogs that bark from sunlight to sundown rant.gif rant.gif .. it didn't help one bit... they still bark rant.gif rant.gif

Ah yes, but do the neighbours keep up the training that Bark Busters taught them or did they expect an instant fix? rolleyes.gif

And for the record, I'm not one of their trainers - I'm just a satisfied customer.

Unfortunately I don't think they did.. they are never home and never seem to spend any time with their three cattle dogs...why on earth anyone would want three cattle dogs in a surburban back yard is beyond me, it is just cruel rant.gif ! Especially so now that they have resorted to muzzling all three dogs cry1.gif , it did stop the barking for a few weeks but they have now learnt how to bark with them on wacko.gif !!
At least the owners are trying!!!

I can't wait till we move!!
