Hi,

I am just wanting peoples opinions on baby monitors, not the one that monitors movement just the sound one. Basically I never thought about getting one, thought them a waste of time (sorry). But now that I am getting closer to EDD I am starting to rethink about getting one. So any thoughts about them in general or what ones are best would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, from a getting very nervous soon to be first time mum.

Hi,

I also thought it would be a waste of time, but I got bought one as a leaving present from work. It's been great.

Because we have a hyperactive cat, we have to have both our door and our son's bedroom door shut at night. Having the monitor means we get to him before he's reached full pitch, which makes him a lot easier to resettle!

I don't find it very useful in the daytime, just at night.

I have the Angelcare Monitor which is great. It picks up a lot and it also has movement - which was great when they were first born and i was paranoid.

I have seen some where you can carry the receiver around with you, so they look pretty good too. Don't know the brand though.

personally i'd wait til bub arrives and then decide. we had 2, both of which broke, and honestly we didn't need them at all (and our bubs' rooms are at the opposite end of the house to our room).

I also love Angelcare, but we have the one with the movement senor. But Target have them without also Target have Angelcare monitors ALOT cheaper then Toys r us.

We used one which was great as I am a very very heavy sleeper. If Ollie (very light sleeper) was here all the time then we wouldn't have needed it at all but because he went away a lot for work I found it great as I was able to get to Harley before he started screaming which made it easier to settle him.

We used it until he was about 18 months old and haven't used it since.

Thanks

Hi,

I had the angelcare monitor, but we never really used it because I can hear DD clearly in our house (it's a small house). So I sold it on ebay and bought a Swann baby video monitor instead, which is a wireless cam set-up. It is the best thing and means you don't have to keep opening their door to see what they're up to. I bought mine off ebay, brand new, $100 cheaper than in the shops.

Cheers,

DH and I were also unconvinced so we waited till baby was born to see if we thought we'd need one. In the end we did, because she was a quiet cryer and during the days/early evenings we'd be at the other end of the house. I can't remember the brand but the parents unit was small and handy to take around wherever you were, so I could do gardening and stuff while she slept.

Haven't used it for ages, but am thinking of plugging it in again so I don't have to keep quiet and listening with half an ear during her naps!
