KylieC
Hi there!

I'm hoping to get some opinions on names for our 3rd bub who is due in just 12 days time. I've been over and over the baby names books, and it's seriously doing my head in.

I have a boys name picked (Max), however my major issue is with naming a 3rd girl should it be a little pink bundle in here!

As you will see from my signature I already have two girls - Sophie and Stella.

The major contenders are:

Scarlett
I do really love this name when you look at it on its own and CAN imagine having a daughter named Scarlett - but I have a few issues with it:
* it would mean 3 x S names (Sophie, Stella & Scarlett) and I'm not sure whether this is a bit too much. (Thinking of potential problems down the track with opening mail etc).
* also our surname has two t's in it - something similar to Garrett only the G is another letter. Ie. Scarlett Garrett. It doesn't really look that great. sad.gif

April
I'm due on the 29th April, so it's possible that bub will actually be born in April. What do people think of this? Appropriate as it is a month name OR tacky?

Other names I've thought of:

Ivy
Eva
Amelia
Lucille/a
Millie
Lola
Audrey
Mabel

Names my DH has suggested:

Tilly
Abigail
Holly

Middle name would either be Pearl (which is a name I love for a middle name) or named after my mother Marlene in some capacity.

If anyone has any thoughts/suggestions they would be gratefully received. I know there has been some banter in here recently as to why people ask for advice with naming their babies. I guess I'm just someone who is indecisive and I tend to analyse and overthink things and get myself in a muddle. Sometimes getting another opinion brings clarity and reassurance. I'd love to be someone who has it all under control in this department.

Thanks in advance

Kylie!

I love your choice in names wub.gif

My top 3 would be

Scarlett Pearl...I don't think it looks to bad with your surname.

Abigail Pearl

Audrey Pearl

Good luck choosing, i know how hard it is as I have 3 girls myself.
Divine53
My favourites are Abigail and Amelia .
maisie
Audrey Pearl is just beautiful wub.gif

IMO Scarlett is wrong for the exact reasons you mentioned. Either of them alone would be enough for me to discount it.

April is lovely.

Hi

I really like your list of names so I can understand why it would be hard to choose. My thoughts are:

Scarlett - lovely but wouldn't use it with your surname
April - lovely
Ivy - lovely
Eva - lovely
Amelia - OK
Lucille/a - OK
Millie - prefer Millicent with NN Mille
Lola - Makes me think of the song so not good connotations
Audrey - lovely
Mabel - bit too old fashioned for me
Tilly - prefer this as a NN for Matilda
Abigail - nice
Holly - nice

I think Pearl is a gorgeous middlename and goes with all your firstname choices.

My top favourites are:

Audrey Pearl
Ivy Pearl
Eva Pearl
fifi-trixibelle
I love your girl's names.

My opinions:
Scarlett- love this. I think it sounds fine with your surname. I don't like siblings having names which begin with the same letter but seeing as you already have 2 with the same letter IMO the third would feel very left out if their name began with a different letter. I know I would.

April- dislike but it would be good as a middle name if she is born in April.

Ivy-nice, I prefer it as a middle name though

Eva- love

Amelia- love

Lucille- I love Lucille but not Lucilla. Lucia, Lucinda and Luciana are lovely too.

Millie- dislike, it sounds too nicknamey. If you used Amelia many people like it as a nickname, however I do not.

Lola- dislike

Audrey- ok

Mabel- ok

Tilly-lovely as a nickname to Matilda

Abigail-ok

Holly-nice

Pearl is lovely as a middle name.

My picks are, in order:
1. Scarlett Pearl
2. Amelia Pearl
3. Eva Pearl
4. Hollly Pearl

If you were wanting to name her after your mum in some form , how about Marlie Pearl?? Just a though! Don't worry you'll know the name when you come across it!

I like:
Abigail (Abbey for short)
Amelia (Milly for short) and
Audrey

Good luck and hope you have your healthy bubby here very soon biggrin.gif

PS Love Max as a boys name too!
mrsdrano
I think April is lovely, or how about Avril which is the French name for April?

From the rest of your list I like:

Amelia
Audrey
Mabel
Tilly (love this as a nn for Matilda)
Holly

Good luck!

I've always hated having the name Gail, but I really think that

Abigail Pearl is a gorgeous name...

Good luck with a decision.

Charlotte Pearl
Ebony Pearl

I like your taste in names.

FWIW, I know a girl named Scarla, so you could possibly use that as a variation on Scarlett.

If you want to honor your mother with the middle name, I'd change it to Marlena as I think it'd work better with that extra syllable.

(OK, just recalled you have a Stella, so I wouldn't use Scarla after all. biggrin.gif)
loubee
I love Scarlett and would be a contender for our baby except I have red hair and think that a red headed Scarlett a little too open for ridicule.

Love Mabel and April and actually love all the names other than Audrey - don't like Auds as a nn and I know a couple who we just can't help but call Auds. Pearl is also a lovely name but don't like it as a middle name to Scarlett -too Red White Garrett IMO.

Ivy is the #1 on our list. original.gif

My DD is Emily with nn Milly so I love that naturally!!

I also really like the suggestion of Scarla as an alternative to Scarlett. My old neighbour had 3 children all starting with the letter J!

I also love April, it is such a beautiful name original.gif

The other one I would rate highly is Marlie, as suggested by PP - that is such a nice name and would be a wonderful tribute to your Mum!

Good luck!

original.gif Thank you all so much for your input. It IS helping, even though I still don't have a definite answer yet!

As a new contender what do people think of "Eliza"?

Thanks

Okay my dear, I've been ruthless!! As you know I'm a huge fan of a few of these names, but I have sat and thought long and hard and have put them into a list in order of preference, with the middle name that I think suits best. It was hard, especially toying them over with your surname!!!!

My winner is Ivy Pearl *******tt. Timeless, and suits the girls too.

That said, I'm still adamant you're having a boy (and if you don't, I should bow out of any guessing games in the future laughing2.gif).

Happy hunting xxx

Ivy Pearl - Yes
Millie Pearl - Yes
Scarlett Pearl - Yes
Amelia Pearl - Yes (though I am also very partial to Amelia Rose)
April Marlie - Yes
Lola Pearl - Yes
Lola Marlie - Yes
Audrey Pearl - Yes

Mabel Pearl - No
Lucille/a - No
April Pearl - No

Thanks for your input everyone. I am down to two choices - Eliza Pearl or Scarlett Pearl. I think it will all come down to seeing bub on the day - which I don't think is too far away now. I will come back in and update once he/she is born. If bub is a boy all of this heartache will have been for nothing! tongue.gif

Thanks again, and if there are any more opinions feel free!

I LOVE Pearl as a middle name, I tried so hard to get DH to agree!

I would pick Eliza Pearl as I find Scarlett abit harsh.
Good luck!

Don't love Scarlett Pearl with your surname (although it's a lovely name otherwise).
