What do you think of the names Franka and Francesca, and which do you prefer? I love both these names, and like that both names can be shortened to Frankie.

I'm not even TTC yet, but have been pondering names anyway!

If I had a daughter, I'd want to use my sister's name, Mairead, as a middle name, so what do you think of:

Franka Mairead
Francesca Mairead

I'd welcome any other suggestions for names that would sit well with the middle name Mairead...

I prefer Francesca Mairead.

I think the spelling Franka, and the pronunciation FRANK- A looks and sounds a bit too masculine! But thats just my 2 cents tongue.gif

How are you pronuncing the middle name?
zara-b
It's pronounced Ma-raid. original.gif
Isis
Me personally, I prefer Francesca. I'd also spell the other Franca. original.gif

Hmm definately Francesca, never heard of Franka(?)
fifi-trixibelle
I definitely prefer Francesca as it sounds so much more pretty and feminine.

I really, really dislike the nickname Frankie with it though. Why would you choose a feminine sounding name and then give it a masculine nickname? I'm yet to understand why people do it.
Swahili
I much prefer Francesca.
hussey
I agree with the others, Francesca is lovely.
clumpy
I actually much prefer Frances.

But of the two, I like Francesca far more than Franca, and would never spell the latter with a K. Franka looks like something you'd buy at Ikea.

Really? Oh, that's no good...

It's actually a German name (with the 'k' spelling anyway), and I like it because I really love the actress Franka Potente.

I'm no a fan of Frances - a bit too plain, but I thought maybe Franka was a bit more interesting than Francesca (which I do love too though...).

I don't particularly like either, but Francesca is a prettier name than Franka, imo
Divine53
Francessca
BrindleGirl
I much prefer Francesca.

If you call your daughter Francesca she can still get Franka as a nickname maybe? That way you get both names original.gif

I like Francesca Mairead.

Exactly. And, I'm another huge fan of Franka Potente - she's absolutely gorgeous.

But, I'm not overly fond of the name or the potential nn. "Frankie" for a girl - it screams cocktail Frankfurt, to me. sick.gif

I do, however, really like the name Francesca nn. Chesca/chessy. original.gif

We had this picked for a middle name if Alex had been a girl.
