Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has read The Secret by Louise Hay... and what did you think about it?? Saw her on Oprah the other day and it sounded great...

Cheers

Hi,

Yes i have read it. I have mixed feelings about it. One the one hand if it can get people to think positively then fine, nothing bad can come of that. But i think there is a "dangerous" element to the book which imply that you just have to think and believe about things for them to magically materialize. Well, let's face it that just won't happen.

A positive outlook, faith in the desired outcome are essential for success, no doubts about that. But that's only one part. If you don't act, take concrete steps towards your goal, then you won't succeed. The book is misleading in that sense. A lot of people want an easy fix and don't want to put the efforts it takes to succeed, the book knows that and plays on it.

Also, a lot of the ideas in that book are nothing new at all and directly taken from classics like Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It all has been said before.

I would say read it, but don't think for one moment that checks will magically pop in the mail like the book says...the only thing things that'll pop will be bills! laughing2.gif

I completely agree with mat96. So many of my friends were raving about it that I bought it - and it isn't cheap! I felt a bit ripped off.

It is good to remind you that positive thinking will start you on your way to success in whichever area/s you want to focus but it does miss out on discussing concrete goals.

I think there are better books out there. This was all about book design and pretty graphics. laughing2.gif That was a bit harsh.

I would advise buying it second hand or borrowing it from a friend so you don't have to fork out over $30 for it.

moos mum, The Secret is not written by Louise L Hay, she wrote You Can Heal Your Life which i loved, I read it 15 years ago and it still rings true today, it was more a self help book, written about 20 years ago. I have not read The Secret but think that Louise's book is along the same thought pattern.
