My fiance and I are gettting married in just two months and cannot decide where to go for our honeymoon. We are taking our DS who will be 12 months at the time.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Maybe you have been somewhere that impressed you or that was also great for young children.

fiji is great for children.

atm the shangri-la resort in fiji is having a special $1579 per person. plus taxes. this includes your flights transferrs and hotel.

But are you aware that anywhere you do go if you take your DS you more then likely won't get those "honeymoon" extra's?

I don't think I've ever seen a more family friendly country then Fiji, also its one of the cheaper overseas islands. Its one of the islands Allan and I looked at "should" we elope.

Most resorts have child care of some sort, whether its kids club or a resort nanny. And most of the resorts having this feature free to guests.

You should really try talking to a travel agent, look online at places you would like to go that type of thing. seriously what some of us had as great trips may not be your style. and well to be honest my ideal honeymoon location would be a few days alone with Allan, it could be in a basement and it would still be great. (mainly coz the stinky poo works so many hours now original.gif getting him at home for more the saturday and sunday is hard work)

I guess it also depends on your budget, i.e $3200 plus whatever they would charge you for DS, just for flights and accom may be more then your willing to pay when you factor in food, tours, equipment hire, car hire, car seat hire, the list goes on.

hope this helps

We went to New Zealand for 10 days for ours and it was fantastic.

Granted there was just the 2 of us but there are plenty of touristy things that are good for kids too.

We hired a car and drove around which might be a bit much for a 12 month old but still it was a fantastic holiday and we'd love to go back.

I second the vote for Queensland islands! Hamilton Island is easy to get to via Qantas/Virgin Blue, you can sometimes get good last-minute deals from www.wotif.com.au, heaps of places to stay & eat on the island, lots of activities, and shops selling anything you might run out of on your stay. And October should be perfect weather. We had our honeymoon on a yacht in the Whitsundays, I think Sophia was conceived there (maybe at Butterfly Bay).

Or how about Albury-Wodonga? Only four hours drive, lots of great wineries & nearby tourist towns (lots of antique & craft shops, top bakeries etc). My mum has just set up a baby-friendly holiday house there, not even advertised yet so PM me if you're interested (may be able to organise a discount). It's got a heated outdoor spa in the gazebo, all the usual mod cons, the house itself is a restored 1940's red brick. Just book early if it's the weekend before Melbourne Cup, the Wangaratta Jazz Festival means everything in the region gets booked out quite early.

One more good place for kids.... Valla Beach near Coffs Harbour. Smaller town that's not as touristy or expensive as Byron Bay, but plenty to see and do (the honey place is interesting, Big Banana and butterfly place at Coffs Harbour, great beaches). Valla Beach caravan park has good rates on yurts (round huts like a self-contained two-bedroom unit, but beware that one bedroom is the upstairs loft - adults only stairs).

Hi,

Again unsure if you want something more local or overseas but try this B&B (where you have the whole place to yourself). http://www.highlandsnsw.com.au/morvern/
We haven't actually been there but had alot of conversations with them and they seem really nice and kids and animals are not a problem!!

Another local place is Bannisters Lodge http://www.bannisterspointlodge.com.au/gallery.html
and I have stayed there. It is quite lovelly and being near the beach there is always alot to do with a 12month old.

If overseas is what you like then I can highly recommend Phuket and for something a little more special staying at the Diamond Cliff Resorthttp://www.diamondcliff.com/diamondcliff_home.html
We actually stayed there for our honeymoon and was really nice.

Hope I have been of some help

CLUB MED: LINDEMAN ISLAND.
Have you thought about this place....? The best thing is everything is included in your price. Flights, transfers, food, snacks, drinks and alcohol. Yes, full bar service and wine and beer at all meals.
They are very kid friendly. Unfortunately the kids clubs start from 2yrs. They also have a special little kitchen area with micorwave and baby food stocked in the fridge for younger ones. You can also use the kids club swimming pools. Two infact that are private just for the kids. The rooms are great, ours even had a portacot in it for our two year old. Absolutely a great place. Plus they have deals on at the momment for both honeymooners and 50% off kids. Check out their website: http://www.clubmed.com.au/lindeman/index.php

Definately a great holiday, with some of the best foods, and great people. Best of all you know its all paid for.
Sharkie

PS: Club Med will organise everything for you. They will book the flights. They will meet at the airport, transfer your luggage straight to your room, confirm your depature and transfer your luggage back to the airport. Nothing is too much trouble, it's all part of the Club Med service.

If you want to venture just a little outside of Australia then I would suggest Fiji or Norfolk Island. I think the latter has a really good deal on which includes flights, accomodation, some meals and tours. The advert was on TV last night so it might be shown again tonight.

Fiji, as someone else mentioned here, is terrific for families. The Fijians love children and will look after them wonderfully while you and DH have some time to yourselves. And it's cheap and safe. We loved it when we were there in 1999 (Treasure Island and the Hideaway Resort on the Coral Coast) and promised to return when we have children. Well, I guess we'll be looking to go there soon, lol.

If you'd prefer to stay in Australia then there's some lovely little bungalows near Ulladulla called Bundle Hill Cottages. They are very private and yet so close to the south coast townships, the beaches and the national parks. Do a search online and I'm sure you'll find them.

Wherever you decide to go, have a great time.

Cheers,
Helen.

Norfolk Island isn't bad either. The best thing about that is techniclly it's in Australia BUT the flight there is classed as International! That's right duty free shopping. Coming back it's classed as domestic, so you don't have to go through customs and declare all that stuff. Plus, they have the cheapest Lego there in Australia. Everything on the island is tax free. So, it makes for a good shopping trip too.

Here's details of a Norfolk Island special ...

"$779 ex Brisbane and $839 ex Sydney includes return airfare, taxes, seven nights twin share accommodation, car hire, Half day island tour & return airport transfers at Norfolk Holiday Apartments. Wednesday departures only. Conditions apply
Contact Oxley Travel on 1800 671 546 OPEN 7 days or email holidays@oxleytravel.com.au"

... not sure if it's the exact one that I saw advertised on TV but it's similiar.

Go to http://www.norfolkisland.com.au/index2.html for more details.

Oh, and another place I thought of was Daydream Island - it's off the Qld coast and I believe the place is targetted at families. Not sure if this is what you honeymooners (with child) would be after though.

Cheers,
Helen.

If you want to stay close to home, I second Helen's suggestion of Bundle Hill Cottages. They are just lovely, and so private (only four of them, and they are quite spread out). The owners go out of their way to make your stay special. When we arrived they even had the fire going and a nice CD playing original.gif

I hear that Mollybrook and Ulladulla are like Queanbeyan on the beach. Is this true?

<a href="http://daisyPath.com"><img src="http://daisypath.com/pic/050808/926d40a.jpg" alt="Daisypath Pic" border="0" /><img src="http://daisyPath.com/days/051022/3/1/+10/1" alt="Daisypath Ticker" border="0" /></a>

Never been to Mollymook, but Ulladulla is really nice. Similar to Batemans Bay - lots of shops, therefore lots of people. But that also means lots of nice places to eat etc.

Close to home I think the Blue Mountains are always lovely original.gif
