I would put my hand up for the Sunday afternoon Hyatt High Tea.
Bimbogirl
I'd love the Hyatt but I fear that it is a bit of the pain for the organizer. Given that you give your credit card on booking and get charged for the number of people you've booked for ,regardles of how many turn up (I think that is how it works).
chat
I hadn't thought of that Bimbogirl.
brazen
yep that is how it works.

i'd be a maybe for the hyatt, it's a whole week's spending for me so i'd probably have to try to save up for it hands.gif

Unless for the Hyatt everyone deposits money to the organiser BEFORE the booking is made?
brazen
oh god, don't go there! events with large amounts of money changing hands will be banned!!!!

(ok, i'm being a smart-a$$ after my thread on why we can't talk about MMM08 )
laraq75
I like the idea of the Hyatt and I think depositing the money is a good idea.
L712
Exactly how much is the Hyatt?
Nut
I am not fussed but I will say that I am more likely to attend something during the day than a dinner. Dinners are not that easy for me to work around with Paul working long hours etc.
Tan72
I have two thoughts on the Hyatt high tea...

1 - Do you really HAVE to book?

2 - People who commit to going once the booking is done then they are locked in and if they can't make it have to cough up anyway or find a replacement!

Day time works better for me too, nights are kind of out, unless it's after 830pm lol.

I really love the idea of the Hyatt, I would love to meet everyone, however I wouldn't book myself in with the deposit because my husbands job is unpredictable and can be called in over weekends. *fingers crossed* he doesn't if this goes ahead grin.gif
canberramomma
I can't really justify $25 for a 'me' outing, and I don't really have a frock I could wear to the Hyatt, but if you guys do something else another time, I'd love to come!
Tinkerbelle
I just spoke to the Hyatt, the price for the afternoon teas are:
Mon-Thurs $33
Fri-Sun $38

Nobody has to put the booking on their credit card, providing they are given 24 hours notice as to numbers then you would only pay for the people that turn up.

Being pregnant I can't eat buffet food anyway, so I probably wouldn't be able to make it.

Hope this helps.

could always do a pizza lunch...
brazen
tara, the buffet is mostly cakes etc so quite pregnancy safe
maltesers
I'd probably prefer dinner - coming home after afternoon tea to do dinner/bath/bed etc kind of negates the relaxing effect of the outing. But I could do either. original.gif
Tinkerbelle
Yes I know all about the cakes at the Hyatt... filled up on them after my wedding cause that was all I could eat... the rest of the food was sandwiches which were a no-no.

Maybe a pizza lunch would be a better (and cheaper) option?
Bimbogirl
I am glad that they have changed the system and you don't have to use a credit card as a holding deposit thingy. I love the idea of the Hyatt, but is anyone else balking at it being $38 for afternoon tea! Or am I the only tightwad here grin.gif

it's not meant to be an everyday event though girls!

seriously it costs me $45 to take the family to subway for lunch as a healther takeaway option, i'd rather a grown up child free afternoon tea at the hyatt anyday LOL (just harder to justify wink.gif)
trebambinibelli
I've also heard nice things about the Hyatt but it is def a bit pricey for afternoon Tea! What about another dinner on a Friday night like the previous one? That seemed to work well... What about a place like Thai Corner? I used to go there with work and loved it (that was a few years ago...) It was very reasonably priced...
Princesspink
I've never tried the high tea, but honestly im not that kinda person. I love to let it all hang out and have a relaxing dinner with wine and nice food.

I would be interested in a dinner depending on the date and location really.

Rama's is always an EB hit. Maybe overdone though? original.gif

I still have my vote for a lunch time thing. Doesn't have to be morning tea... Just for a change as dinner is pretty much always what is done and many find it hard to make it in the evenings.

Hi Dixiebelle - Hyatt afternoon tea followed by drinks etc. sounds excellent to me. Except for chatting up women - I think I'll pass on that laughing2.gif I can't even get my childless friends to "kick on" and make a night of something these days - for them it's dinner or movie then straight home! wacko.gif We wouldn't need dinner after the afternoon tea - last time I had afternoon tea at the Hyatt I ate so much I almost rolled out of there!

Cheers,
Princesspink
Im a bit old for all that jazz, might also cancel out pg women too.

Have a good one though original.gif

dixiebelle that sounds like fun lol.

Oh geez Dixiebell, count me in!! grin.gif

Only thing is, would have to skip the afternoon tea and come straight to drinkies dev (6).gif (I of course have to get the toddler and twins sorted before I go out).

Woodfire pizza in the city sounds like a plan.

May (except first week) and June pretty much any dates are good for me as long as DH is home to look after the kiddies.

Anyone else???

Hi,

Another vote here for the wood-fired pizza lunch - best days for me are Mondays and Fridays, or weekends.

I went to afternoon tea at the Hyatt last year, and personally was disappointed in range, quality and amount of food...........
Nut
There is no reason why we can't do both.

How about we organise a pizza lunch for those who want to do that and a few weeks down the track the Hyatt tea followed by drinkies?

Or the tea first... Which ever works. We're not exactly working on a limited time frame for get togethers really original.gif
shine
We are never going to satisfy everyone in one event (or though I dont think chating up randoms got any votes grin.gif )

So I have a plan...

Pizza 12pm (I find it best get a group booking in before all the other orders otheriwse groups never get fed) on Saturday 10th May. I am happy to organise if someone tells me where to book.

Dinner on Friday ??? June - I volunteer Dixiebelle to organise, but I guess probably needs some suggestions too.

Sunday in July - some kind of family event, thinking teddybears picnic at Cotter, but we may need a back up plan if its too cold.

WDYT?

Just my two pence worth

It's not funny i love woodstock but it's gone now cry1.gif

i only laugh becuase from what i heard it had gone severely downhill in it's last years anyway, which kind of made a mockery of them talking about them only closing because of the canberra centre. i only went there once and while it wasn't bad i didn't rush back that's for sure...
lovingmother
yes i have to say it did go down hill i was there ever friday when i was preg with dd and then when i went back in late 2006 it was $hit.

I can do Saturday the 10th of May. It sounds like fun and I love the idea of the Hyatt as well.

Did we get a decision on where we were going yet. APK Woden or the city are both good. Is there anywhere else in Canberra that you can all think of.

I was also thinking about maybe doing a breakfast one weekend. I love going out for breakfast.
*Caro*
I've never done the Hyatt and would love to experience it! (I've also not come to an EB get together for over 2 years ohmy.gif ) So count me in! Although the thought of needing a frock has me a little alarmed! tongue.gif

Dixiebelle, LOL at having a boozy night out and chatting up women! laughing2.gif

pretty sure i wore pants to the hyatt last time LOL
laraq75
YOu don't need to get dressed up for the hyatt. I have worn jeans there before. I think if you were in the Oak room it would be different but it is just afternoon tea.
chaney
I would love to come but alas DH is away with work - now back on the 17th May.

Though mid $30 is a bit on the steep side for just tea and scones it would be enjoyable - imagine trying to get your money's worth in cakes and cream laughing2.gif

Maybe if the hyatt is too much, what about a tea and scones afternoon tea at one of the national trust/historial buildings around canberra, such as Calthorpes’ House (serving with afternoon tea on the front verandah).

For future events - what about a group booking for Tim the Yowie Man's old parliment house haunted tour. If we have the numbers we may be able to get our own tour - I think its $10 each.

Cheers,
