Well according to my doctor this is what I most probably have. Good-bye fatty foods. This is what has been causing me excrutiating pain on and off for the past three weeks. Have to have a ultra sound to confirm it, but he can't think of anything else it would be. Anyone else survived this? Anyone got some good, low fat recipes?

Hi Kylie,
Sorry to hear you might have gallstones. But the good news is that you will survive it and the pregnancy. If I can, you can too.
I was diagnosed with gallstones 4 months before my son was born. Although, I ate pretty normally for those 4 months.....stay away from Kingsleys Chips! (Even after you give birth)That was the be all and end all for me.
Hopefully things will settle down with a change in diet.

Thanks Sharkie. Have you continued to control by diet or have you had to have your gall bladder out? My gp said because of my age it would be safer to remove it after I've had the baby.

Oh no Kylie! On the up side at least you know what it is now. hugs and I hope the change in diet makes all the difference.
Kingley's chips make Chris feel really ill as well. Does that mean his gall bladder is screwed? :confuse: I find it repeats on me quite badly so we don't eat there anymore. I wonder if it's the oil they are using?

Hi Nice Luke's mum (as opposed to Yucky Luke's mum!!!)
I had gallstones when I was pregnant with J. Horrible things they are. I had my first attack while pregnant and then nothing for about 10 months and it all flared up again. I ended up getting them out when J was about 6 months old. You find out pretty quick what you can eat and can't and strangely it isn't all about fat it is just what flares you up (although fat and alcohol seem to be the most common).
If you are a public patient I would get on a Theatre list as soon as you can as the wait is getting horrendous. It was up to 18 months a few months ago. You need to see a surgeon and they will put you on their public list. They do categorise you according to you health , but if you are otherwise healthy and just getting attacks it is a very long and stressful and painful wait.
If you have private insurance or are willing to pay for the operation , they can do it pretty soon after bub is born and I have had plenty of women that have their babies in hospital with them and us surgical nurses cluck like mad!!!Although we don't allow breastfeeding in our hospital... KIDDING!!!!! Most people are in only for one night and have a fantastic recovery.
If you would like a list of surgeons that I would recommend and ones that ummm would not be my first choice , send me a pm. Good luck and Congratulations on the pregnancy and big hugs to Nice Luke
Regards
Chris

Here's hoping you get through the last months of your preg relatively pain free.
I was diagnosed with gall stones when I fell preg. I had some pretty weird symptoms such as incredible itching, constipation, brown urine. I had a complete bockage in my bile duct. I was told I had to have surgery ASAP in my second ttimester as it was the safest. I booked to have it done as a ptrivate patient but ended up having it done as emergency through the public system too much pain for me.
Low fat diet is the key. Skim milk and low fat content foods. Dry fry or grill rather than fry with oils or butter. Avoid things like BBQ chook or take away food. Substitute butter or marg with a low fat spread but still use sparingly. If you need to use oil in cooking use sunflower or olive oils. Don't eat the fat off your meat. Avoid chocolate. Mostly commonsense stuff. Make your own mince by buying round or blade steak cut of the fat and put through a food processor.
PM me if you would like. I don't get on ,much ATM as we are packing to move to the ACT.
