Has anyone been to the new Tidbinbilla Nature Sanctuary? Is it worth going to or is it still under development? Do they have many animals?

It's a nice pram/wheelchair and kid-friendly bushwalk through bush and wetlands. Don't go expecting to see heaps of animals but there will be an assortment of water birds around. From memory we saw ducks, black swans, pelicans, a brolga and black cockies.

Signage says the main loop is supposed to take 100 minutes but we did it on Saturday in under an hour - and that was with DD walking all the way except one short stretch when she hitched a ride with DH.

We saw more in the way of big wildlife (kangaroos, emus and a wedge-tailed eagle cruising thermals) while driving in and at the picnic area/adventure playground having lunch and a play.

But it's free and a lovely spot. There is a funky water feature in the middle of the new wetlands area that will be fabulous after it has a chance to grow a bit and get some rain - you actually walk on metal grated paths above the water.

Steph - it sounds awesome! Perhaps we should organise another gtg out there? I will start another thread though, sorry OP. blush.gif

Hi

I took my boys on Tuesday. It was good. There are a lot of animals out there but most sleep during the day so you don't get to see them. The only things we got to see was the pelicans, ducks etc and a blue tongue lizard and a turtle.

They have pelican feeding daily at 1.30pm.

Its a really nice relaxing walk. It took us just over an hour to watch the pelicans and walk around the track.

You can check out www.tams.act.gov.au there is a program of whats on and when.
