Hi,
we are planning on starting a walking group that allows us to improve our fitness while catching up with everyone - or meeting people for the first time.
Prams are welcome on this walk but definitely not essential for you to come. (If you are bringing young children you will need a pram otherwise the walk will be too slow for the adults and reduce the fitness benefits)
This will initially start at lake burley griffin at regatta point and be on Wednesdays and Thursdays starting at 10 am for the bridge to bridge walk. (so aim for 9:45). There seems to be a few North side people who are interested so one of the days might change venue over time to a north side venue - I will keep you posted on these changes if/ when they occur.
I personally will not be able to go on school holidays, but there probably will be plenty of people who will want to continue at this time.
If you can only come every now and then (say once a year) that is fine, don't worry about letting people know if you can't make it - if you aren't there by 10 am we will assume that you aren't coming that day.
Any way - any further suggestions on times, venue or anything else please respond here.
I thought starting on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th of May would leave enough time for people to think about it, and show interest.
Please respond here if you are interested, which day and what side of town you are on. grin.gif

Oh I forgot to mention that after the walk there is a park at regatta point for children to play in and people can stay and have morning tea there too.

Thanks for posting this goesaround it sounds great.

I look forward to meeting everyone and improving my fitness.
sparkle77
I'd love to join, with my newborn in her pram smile1.gif

I am northside, and would prefer wednesdays.

Good work on organising this goesaround, I look forward to meeting you.
tigermama
Yes please!! biggrin.gif
I'm in inner north so the lake is perfect for me and wed/thurs work fine.
shannon26
I would be interested. I am due in 4 weeks so I think I would be right to start about mid June or so.
canberramomma
I'd like to try and make it, but I can't during school holidays. My older guys would slow people down too much. Will try and make it once they are back at school, though!
Jet07
I'll be in too on a casual basis. I'm Northside. I'll be on my own on Wednesdays, or with Talon in a stroller or on a bike with handle on Thursdays.
mum*of*two
Sounds like fun... I definitely need some motivation to get out and do some exercise! I'm southside, both days are good for me. Thanks for organising this one... a fantastic idea original.gif

Hi,
catch up with you guys on wednesday and/ or thursday (7 and 8 of May 08)...will scope out regatta point on the weekend to decide on the best place to meet (unless anyone already has an idea), on each day I will have 2 of my children with me - my 4 year old son and 21 month old daughter (and my old but well loved double mountain buggy), I will be there unless someone is sick or it is raining.
Looking forward to it...see who ever can make it soon
(also Shannon26 don't forget you can start when ever - make sure you give your body some time to recover...I learnt this lesson the hard way by damaging my back while painting a pergola when my son was 3 weeks old - probably not a good idea in retrospect!)

How do you manage to keep your toddlers in the pram???

I would love to come but dd would never sit still, requires contstant snacks and loo trips, it would never work.

Have fun, great idea.

Karen

Excellent. Thanks for organising.

I can do Thursday's. And should be able to make the 8th.

Let us know the meeting point.

Laurel

Ps I am Northside

Hi,
my youngest is used to a pram - I always took a baby carrier along in case when she was younger, at 20 months I just make sure I bring her water and something to eat and a toy - she loves looking around at whats going on and loves being outside, as for the older child, food is essential and often I talk to him about what is at the end of the walk - in this case the park, he is pretty good most of the time, he weighs about 16 kilos and the mountain buggy takes up to 25 kilos, next year he will be at preschool and on walks around my suburb he will be able to ride his bike faster then he can now (like my older son who is 51/2 does).
I really think the key is with the older ones is letting them know at what point they are allowed out (give then snacks and talk to them when they are in the pram)...I go for the walk near the plant nursery near weston park, half way through the walk he feeds the ducks, and later on looks for acorns.
mumin07
I'm interested in coming, Thursday's only.
arniet
I thought I would bump this up again to see if there is any more interest! I am looking forward to starting.
~mimo~
Won't be here next week, but possibly the week after.

Where will we be meeting, and where is the best place to park?
goesaround
Does anyone have a good suggestion for where we should meet? I could of walked over on Monday at lunch time to look but it was FREEZING on that particular day.
cooltate23
I would love to. Wednesdays are best for me. I am in Queanbeyan.
L712
I don't thik we will make it next week but will am to the week after.
-R2-
OK, after 3 years as an ACT EB lurker, I think it's time to come out of the closet. But am I the only taker for thursdays???? (I work wednesdays)
Mel_Mac
ph34r.gif Sorry, it's tottally OTT but -R2- that is the most stunning photo in your sig! Gorgeous.

Anyone interested in a jogging group? original.giflaughing2.gif
L712

Goesaround we could meet at the Regatta Point cafe / exhibition building thing on top of the hill. There is good carparking around there and there are also toilets and changing facility for bubs so if anyone needs them before we head off.
ebnlhrrg
Hi

I am new to EB and would love to come with my 19 month old and 7 month old - I am on the northside and can only make thursdays.

Kelly
goesaround
arniet,
do you mean out the front of the cafe or through the cafe on the deck??
arniet
I was thinking where the automatic doors are near the car park side, the entrance of the exhibition/ tourist bit. I haven't been there for a while so I am probably not describing it very well. LOL.

It is a paved area and I think there is a big map or something on the ground as well.

I am happy to meet on the deck etc. too.
L712
I know where you mean. That is fine by me if ok with others.
goesaround
That sounds good to me too, around near the doors, don't think we will be missed with the mass of prams - see everyone who can make it next wednesday or thursday there (location sounds good, I didn't want it near the playground because my two would want to play there and I would never get going on the walk) Hopefully it won't rain...still coming if it is cold (it is canberra after all - if I didn't turn up in the cold it would never be on - just put my kathmandu clothes on - including kids)
goesaround
Hi everyone,
just a reminder that our walk starts next wednesday and thursday (setting off at 10am), we will be meeting around 9.45. (at the automatic doors near the entrance to the exhibition/ tourist bit at regatta point...we will be the people with the prams there. If it rains it won't be on that day. All are welcome (pram or without pram). I will remind everyone up to the day!
L712
I can't come next Thursday but plan to the week after.
Jet07
I'm doubtful for this week (but is in my diary in case something else cancels), but should be there the following week - probably Wednesday but can do most Thursdays too.
goesaround
2 more days until our pram walking group officially starts in 2 days (if no one else can make it the topic of conversation will probably be on spider man and venom) blink.gif
-R2-
sad.gif I've just found out I have to be in Sydney for work on Thursday (normally my day off). I hope I can join in next week????
goesaround
See you next week original.gif
sparkle77
I'll be there tomorrow, looking forward to getting out and about.
tigermama
I'm hoping to be there tomorrow too original.gif
binchen
Can I join the club original.gif ?
I got lost in the thread, so where will you meet and at what time?
arniet
Hi Binchen everyone is welcome. I have copied goeasaround's post for you with all the details as follows:

Hi everyone,
just a reminder that our walk starts next wednesday and thursday (setting off at 10am), we will be meeting around 9.45. (at the automatic doors near the entrance to the exhibition/ tourist bit at regatta point...we will be the people with the prams there. If it rains it won't be on that day. All are welcome (pram or without pram). I will remind everyone up to the day!

Hi,
we went for our walk today and the weather was beautiful.
If some of us go at different pace we can always catch up at the end at the park (for those of us with toddlers that are interested in the park that is)...is anyone planning on going tomorrow? I will be going if anyone else is going (it is meant to be fine and 18 degrees tomorrow. biggrin.gif
arniet
Hi goesaround I am planning on going tomorrow. I enjoyed it today.
mumin07
I plan on being there tomorrow. Look forward to meeting you all.
binchen
Hi there, I will come tomorrow as well.
I am not so familiar with the lake - Regatta Point, is it North or Southside? I struggle a bit with the "automatic doors" - where are they? blush.gif
tigermama
Was great today - thanks everyone original.gif I might try and make it tomorrow - will see how I go..

Sabine; it is on the civic side of the lake (ie. northside), take the exit off Commonwealth Avenue bridge and head up to park near the building at the top of the little hill. The doors are on the only building on the hill. Hope that helps a bit!
binchen
Thanks tigermama biggrin.gif - now I know it.
Busy working mum
Fingers crossed, Ella and I will be there... Though Ella's only a month old and it depends on her feeding times!
goesaround
Hi,
hope to catch up with people on wednesday or thursday next week, newcomers welcome (with or without prams)
Happy mothers day tomorrow everyone - hope you get to sleep in and have breakfast in bed.
goesaround
Is there any way that this topic can be "pinned" so that anyone that is interested further down the track can be aware of our pram walking group that occurs each wednesday and thursday?? (I don't know the rules regarding this)
Jet07
I'm sorry I won't make it tomorrow as I have a bad cold and no energy. Maybe Thursday, or else next week.
L712
I have to take DS for his vaccinations tomorrow. We will get there! Hopefully next week.
goesaround
Pram walking is still going for anyone that wants to join us at lake burley griffin at 9:45 wednesday and thursday the walk takes between 1 hour to 1.5 hours depending on your pace. biggrin.gif
arniet
I had a great walk today in the gorgeous autumn weather, I don't think I will be able to make tomorrow as my oldest daughter is not well. If she is feeling better tomorrow we will come along.
