I am 25 weeks pregnant and DH and I have been discussing boys names (girls name we have no problem). He has chosen a name he said he's loved since he was a teenager as it has meaning to him but I am not sure how I feel about it.

The name he has chosen is Scot (one t) and his mothers maiden name as the babys middle name (which is also his middle name)which is Turbayne. We have a fairly common surname so it goes OK with that.

My issue is that I wanted a name that was different to anyone we know. I know a Scott (with 2 t's) and DH says it is different to our friends. I am not sure I like Scot as a name for a boy though. He doesn't seem to like any other names I come up with (and believe me there have been lots) and he won't come up with any others himself. As he has loved this name for so long I kind of feel that we should go with it. Maybe the name will grow on me. DD's name took a month or so to grow on me (I did like it from the start though), so maybe this one might too.

Anyone had a similar issue with their partner and how did you resolve it?

DH and I are continually clashing on boys names! He always wanted to call his first son James (it is his middle name), but my brother's name is James. We have agreed to have it is a mn (probably).

Maybe ask your DH to compromise and use Scot as a middle name, or have two middle names?

Some suggestions:
Alexander Scot Turbayne
Isaac Scot Turbayne
Liam Scot Turbayne
Eliott Scot Turbayne
Xavier Scot Turbayne
Henry Scot Turbayne
Asher Scot Turbayne
Kaiden Scot Turbayne
Nicholas Scot Turbayne
Toby Scot Turbayne
Zachary Scot Turbayne
Samuel Scot Turbayne
Evan Scot Turbayne
Aidan Scot Turbayne
James Scot Turbayne
Owen Scot Turbayne
Miles Scot Turbayne
Oliver Scot Turbayne
Matthew Scot Turbayne
Keiran Scot Turbayne
Hugo Scot Turbayne

I would use it as a middle name. DH loves William and right up to a couple of weeks ago we were going to use that but I just really dislike the nickname Bill so we are now using it as a middle name. I am much happier with that.

I would use it as a middle name.

You both need to be happy with your choice (not just him)

Good Luck

I would look at longer names that you like that could possibly use Scot as a nn (not that I can think of any!) otherwise I'd use Scot Turbayne as middle names, they do go well together. I think you would regret just settling on a name you don't particularly like.

I'm having the same prob with my DH atm.
Our two kids have 'old' names, Ava & Leo...
and out of nowhere for #3 DH has pulled out 'Mika' blink.gif said like 'Micah', but he likes the 'k' spelling'... We've agreed to disagree and move on.
Thankfully we are set for girl's names!!!! We've always found boys names harder...

Maybe like previosuly suggested, you can have two middle names???

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, and thanks especially to hola for all the names :-) Will suggest using Scot Turbayne as middle names. In the meantime it might grow on me. Still have 15 weeks to go!

A general thing we did from baby no2 (DS2)on. DS1's name was set in concrete before we were expexcting him.

Write lists of suggested names. Put these lists on the door of the fridge, on the mirror in the bathroom. Keep looking at them, as either of you "go off" a name, cross it off the list. If either of you hear another you like, add it. See what names are still left after 12 weeks of repeated exposure.
