I have been checking out all the ACT stuff religiously because I have been SO HOMESICK for Canberra while being stuck here in Russia. And now DD and I will be coming home at the end of the month - woooo hoooo!!I am so happy to be coming back to Canberra - to my family, our house, our dog, our friends! I won't even mind that it will be cold wintertime! wink.gif And hopefully I will be able to come along to some EB get togethers and meet you guys!

The only problem is DH won't be coming back till Sept/Oct so we will have another stint away from each other sad.gif It sucks being apart and is so tough being a solo parent and DD will miss her daddy tremendously

Anyhow, just thinking ahead to life in Canberra...I will have to get back into part time work (assuming my long suffering boss will take me back lol) and up till now DD has been looked after by my mum (usually) and sometimes a friend who babysits at our place.

This time I think it would be good for everybody if she also started going to some sort of daycare - just a few hours a week (start off with one day a week maybe 4 hours). She LOVES other kids and would really like the socialising and playing etc. So the question is, how hard will it be to get DD in anywhere? She isn't on any waiting lists and I have no idea how full up places are right now. Also, what TYPE of care should I be looking at?? I am a complete novice at this.

Any help will be appreciated!

Veronica

Most childcare centres here have exhorbitant (sp) waiting lists, but there is a centre called Cooinda Cottage out at Charnwood that does occasional care... You just ring up and book a week in advance original.gif Of course that all depends on where you live! Hope this helps though, some other centres do occasional care. Oh, and I think family daycare is easier to get into, but it all depends on whether you want a centre or family day care... original.gif

A lot of centres on the southside have vacancies, I think it's only Belconnen that is having problems. Our centre at Gowrie has quite a few spots, and I've heard the same at a few others.
Good luck with the move, looking forward to meeting you.

Thanks for the feedback!

I figured the waiting lists would still be pretty bad but am hopeful of finding something as I only want one day a week and would prefer family day care. I am in Belconnen but work in the Woden area and my mum is in Weston Creek, so any of those places would suit me fine. Fingers crossed!

Yani, we're in Moscow...have you been here? Most people back in Oz haven't and they look horrified that DH and I are dragging DD around here! wink.gif

Hi again,

Nope. I never been to Moscow. I've been to Khabarovsk, 7 hours flight from Moscow. That's where DH came from ;p . It's near South Korea. But he has relatives in Moscow also. It's bloody cold here while it's hot there right now. Good luck with finding childcare centre original.gif .
