Hi
I am considering applying for a job out at the Brindabella business park and I am concerned over the traffic. I was wondering does anyone else go that way and know what it is like in rush hour? I know that there are plans to redo the roads around there and I do not fancy getting stuck in the works either. I will be coming from southside.
WDYT? Issue or not?

I think it depends on the time you start work. I went to a function there last week and was there by 7:10am and the traffic was no problem. By the time I left at 8:45 it was busy. It starts getting really busy at 4pm in the afternoon. I don't go out there that often, so my experiences might have been a one-off though.

They've got an excellent childcare centre out there (Montessori based I believe?), preference may be given to businesses in the area?

Hi Karen, My 3 attend The Park School & I have travelled out there a bit with dropping them off & picking them up & so forth. It can get busy at Peak hour times but I wouldn't say it is any worse than any of the other business districts in Canberra such as the city. Also, remember they are still finishing up the roads out there so it will only get better.
As for childcare, The Park School is the centre our 3 are enrolled. Like Kate said they do give preference to parents that work in Brindabella Business Park but if you are seriously considering you might want to check if they have vacancies, cause I know they have had an extensive waiting lists last year.
Kate, where did you hear that the daycare centre was Montessori based. This is the first I have heard of that?????

My neice went there and my MIL mentioned it...she's probably getting it confused with my DS participating in the Monterssori first 3 years program?? Maybe "based" is the wrong word?

I go past their daily, usually at 9:00am and the traffic is pretty good. Around the peak time of 8-8.30 the trip can very slow and the same applies in the afternoon, I usually travel through their at 5:30pm & again it is very slow, long delays & a lot of traffic. Typical of the ACT Govt they allow for new developments to be built but don't do anything about the roads. Also you need to be prepared for times when VIP's leave from Fairbairn & the police decide to close all the roads & you are left to sit in the traffic until they have gone.
It is not likely to improve for the next 12 months as their is major roadworks about to start to resolve the problems. If you are considering working their I would also look at the parking as I have heard it is a problem.

My DH works there, and apparently the traffic is a nightmare between just before 8, and 9am, then again from 4 til 5.30. When I've flown back into Canberra around 5pm, I know that it's been a challenge getting out of the place. I'll guess I'll see how bad it really is when I have to drop DH off at work on Thursday!
As for the childcare, I've been told that the center runs on an italian model, where they encourage involvement from relatives. A girl I work with, who's previous job was a director of a CCC (not the park school), told me this. Apparently it's a good model, but doesn't work so well in Canberra, where people don't have a lot of relatives living close by. Anyway, I've heard from other parents that they've been happy with the center, and that's all that matters!

I feel like I am living a parallel life to you shine!
My DH works out at Brindabella Business Park and the traffic is pretty bad. He drives from the north but it backs up around Russell and then again through the roundabouts into the airport area.
Depending on the office you work in the parking is a bit of a walk to the offices so you need to factor that into travel times. DH needs to get to work at 8.30pm to have enough time to park and walk into his office for 8.45am when he starts work.
My DH finds if he can leave work at 4.30 it only takes half an hour to get home, but if he waits another 15 minutes it is 45-50 minutes.
