In the same vein as my Jocelyn post...
Don't think we'll actually go with Penelope but like Jocelyn did a little while ago, it has temporarily captured my imagination.
Shortened to Penny or Pen.
Sometimes it sounds sweet, other times it sounds risky (ie I don't like it at all)
Thoughts?
ETA DD1 is Alice, so Alice and Penny

I think it's lovely, very english sounding - it's on our list too (just have to conceive first)!

Fantastic. Elegant, cool mythical origins, perfect for both a child and an adult, good nicknaming potential, and goes beautifully with Alice.
If you pick Jocelyn over this I will hunt you down.

Fair enough Clumpy! I think we can safely rule Jocelyn out now anyway. Thanks for your feedback - much appreciated.

It's ok but the nickname Penny really puts me off it completely.

I much prefer it to Jocelyn.

I love Penelope, and I don't think Penny is inevitable. Nelly, Polly, Pepper, Poppy or even Pel are all definitely usable.

One name I can't stand.

Too soft for me, not good in a boardroom.
Well, that is my measure.
I can't get past Penelope Pitstop.

It's a classic name, nice to see it making a comeback

. Not risky IMO. I almost always get Penny, occasionally Pen. I remember feeling very relieved when Mum told me she picked 'Penelope' over 'Felicity'.

I love it! This was in our top 3 girl's name if DS2 had turned out to be a girl.

Thanks for all the replies. Must admit I'm surprised to find such a positive response. Maybe those who don't like it just don't post? As far as our list of girls names go, Penelope is on it - but neither DH nor I are in love with it. We can't seem to find anything to fall in love with! Less than 8 days til this baby comes into the world. Oh dear... better find something soon

I love it too. It's one of those names we haven't heard much of for a few decades and we are re-discovering. I think it might be like Victoria - all the Victorias born in the 70s and 80s were known as Vicky but now little girls are called Victoria or maybe Torie. You could just call her Penelope quite comfortably. Far better than Jocelyn!! (The one Jocelyn I know changed her name legally at Deed Poll to Jo!!)
