Hi everybody,

I was hoping to pick a few brains a little more knowledgeable then mine! We went for our usual 20 week scan only to see two heads on the screen instead of one. I can hardly belive we are having twins. They don't run in my family so I never suspected!

We have a 18 month old who will be just two when the twins are born. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice about everything!

We only have a VL commodore and I do not think we will all fit! one cot, one pram (I got a phil and ted with toddler seat when I was first prgnent and thought I was great at being prepared! NOT when there are two)

Please if there is anything you wished you had known in the early stages could you share your wisdom!

Thank you Sammyrai

Firstly a huge Congratulations, you must be in a bit of shock atm.

If you have a look around you'll find lots of good advice original.gif. There was a thread recently that was about surviving with newborn twins, there should be some advice in that.

Just ask away, if you have a specific question, ask & we'll try & help biggrin.gif

congratulations do you know if they are boys or girls or 1 of each?if you buy slim line car seats you will all fit in the commodore we bought a new commodore to fit our 3rd baby in only to discover we were having twins so we didnt fit i also bought a new pram with toddler seat thinking i was being prepared only to discover i had wasted my money. i used one cot for the first few months so dont stress if you dont want to buy another yet. i had a 3.3 yr old and an 18 month old when my twins were born if you have any questions i would be happy to try and answer them enjoy biggrin.gif

Thanks everybody for all the congradulations!

Yea I am still a bit in shock but slowly coming to terms with it! getting a bit more excited as the days go on! My Husband is very excited!

Not sure what the sex is yet! We find out on Friday but apparently what we have is a Monochorionic/Diamnotic twin pregnancy so if they are both the same sex they may be identical? Anyone heard of that before?

Looked on the ATR site yesterday and found that pretty interesting. It's been great reading stories of other mum's... so much advice!

Thanks again

Hi Sammy -

COngratulations!

I have 3 and we have a Commodore - so it can be done! We have the Safe N Sound Compaq carseats - which can be used from birth.

Make sure if you have any questions at all to ask as we have all been in your shoes!

Congrats again!

No help with coping with twins as I'll be discovering that for myself in 2-3 weeks.

If your twins are monochorionic/diamniotic then they are identical (so will be the same sex) (that's what mine are too).

Congratulations and best wishes for an uneventful pregnancy.

congrats on finding out about your twins.

I have mono chorionic, di amiotic twins. They will definely be identical.

As for the pram thing. I have a phil and teds pram from when i had my first DD. I have now got a toddler seat for DD1 and put the twins in the bottom together. When they are small they fit really easily and they are so used to being close together that they usually are better together rather than seperate. As im sure you know the toddler seat can go at the back once the bubs can control their heads. My plan is to try and only have the phil and teds pram till the bubs get big enough to go in it together and DD will (hopefuly) walk! I have a Baby born to put 1 twin in when they get too big to be in together.

Im also waiting on a twin front pack called a Maximom, hopefully this will help sometimes too.

Congrats again and enjoy the ride!

No advise- no twins here- but congratulations what a lovely suprise- and that I'm sure you'll be amazed at what things you can make do with.

Thanks again everybody!

We have not been to see a midwife yet.. first appointment is Friday so I had lots of questions to ask.. like would they be identical but don't have to now!
Someone told me you can have identical boy girl twins.. but I am not sure if I belive that? I've never heard of it!

Thanks heaps for the Phil and Ted pram suggestion! We have looked briefly at another pram for three that was like $800.00 and I was like no way that is too expensive! I hope to use our existing one (phil and Ted) for as long as possible till my almost 2 year old Harlie (girl) can walk everywhere!

Also what is a Maximom? Is that an attatchment for the pram?

Thanks Sammyrai

congratulations on your twin pregnancy.
Imagine what it would be like to have twins and then stop imagining!! Reality is nothing like what you imagine..
I don't think I could have ever been prepared for my twins.
They are now just over 4 months and every day is something new.. some days (most) are great, but others I wonder how I will manage to get throught them.

Your in for a rollercoaster ride but it's so enjoyable and worth every moment when you have two smiling faces staring up at you every morning original.giforiginal.gif
All the best for the rest of your pregnancy

Hi again
You can have identical boy girl twins but it is very rare and it is caused by a genetic abnormality and would mean that one twin would have lots of medical problems. Its not something to worry about it is extreemly rare.

As for the Maximom it is a front pack similar to the baby bjorn. Here is a link for itMaximom carrier

I plan to use my carrier for short trips etc. I think it would be very hard to carry them for too long together but sometimes it would be sooooo helpful

Hope this helps
Feel free to PM if you want to
sammyrai
Thanks for the info on Maximom! Looks helpful! I take my toddler to a jungle gym play session and have worried about what to do with the twins! That would be great for a short burst like that!

Thanks again!

Congratulations, having twins is such a wonderful unique experience that will have you in tears of laughter at the ridiculous situtations you find yourself in and tears of frustation at the oft times same situation LOL it is a roller coaster but so so so worth it original.gif

Advice is such a hard thing because everyone is so different but three things I tell expectant mums are get a battery operated swing (I got two with my second set LOL) they are like a second pair of hands when you need it, if you are breastfeeding then know that tandem breasfeeding twin newborns is hard, but gets much easier and my biggest thing was to try not to stress, you will get there original.gif Sometimes one cries because you are dealing with a sibling and thats a downside of being a multiple the upside is they are a twin.

Being a multiple mum is wonderful but hard at times original.gif Good Luck with the rest of your pregnancy, get lots of rest and when they come along try to really savour some moments because it goes so quickly original.gif
