Isn't that funny - I immediately thought it would be pronounced like Fiona but with a Lah on the end. So Fion-lah. Interesting name. Poor kid will have to keep spelling it out for the rest of it's life though...

I think I saw that name on here. I assumed it was meant to be Finlay.

It is Finlay. It is the original Scottish spelling. It is pronounced slighly differently to the anglican Finaly but close enough. Sure they would have to spell it out but at least there is a reason with a long tradition for spelling it that way.
I would have thought the first bit was pronounced like fionn not finn. there ye go.

We just had a member of our DIG give birth to a beautiful Fionnlagh last week, perhaps it is his birth notice you saw.
It is an Irish name and all her other kids have lovely Irish names too (Liam, Riordan, Aioffe, Fearghus, Maeve and Gael).

the pronounciation got me stumped until a pp cleared it up.
Gorgeous names, I dont know how to pronounced the others but Im sure they are lovely.
Puts a whole new perspective on names hey?
For those who say, "Don't butcher original spelling, bla bla bla"
"Poor kid will have to spell it out for the rest of his life" yadda yadda!
IMO No different to Unique spelling. With the Y's, H's etc.. Still cant pronounce the traditional way!

JUst by looking at it I would have said Finlay as well, but I am partial to scottish boys names

Does it?
This to me is an original spelling and in a completely different category to all the atrocious
uneek spellings that are popular these days.

Ooooohhhh, that was me who gave birth to a Fionnlagh two weeks ago! And no, not me in the birth notices as we don't do them. Funny that there were two so close together!

Thank you! That is exactly what I thought when I chose the name!!

This is also a very traditional Irish name and is spelled Fionnuala and pronounced exactly as you have written. This is the name we would have used if we had a girl. I LOVE the name A LOT!
