I have posted about this before, but it does seem to have gotten worse. I have severe fluid retention, from the hips down. So much so that my calves are stretched to maximum and constantly itchy (which I presume is due to skin stretching). My legs and hips feel bloody heavy and clothes that fit in the morning dont in the arvo. I am drinking as much water as I can (litres of the stuff), putting my feet up, drinking dandelion tea and wearing support stocking socks, and I am retaining still. My urine is almost orange and smells (sorry if TMI). I am 25 weeks, so I expect this to only get a lot worse.
Spoke with Dr about this yesterday who said that he’d take this as a positive, rather than a negative, of pregnancy (WTF) (and it means that things are progressing or something) and because my blood pressure is low, that this will be having no harmful effects. To be honest, I did give him a strange look when he said this, and he told me we could do a urine test. Which was fine (the dip stick thingy). And the conversation was ended. I feel that orange urine is not good (I’m a physiologist so I kinda know about these things) and that perhaps we could have spoken more about this. Had a terrible few weeks with other stuff and feel at the end of my rope, and can’t argue and just felt like a whinger. I ususally can stand up for myself and tell people if I feel that things are not right, but I just cant right now. Other things happened that he totally blew off, so left very unsatisfied girl.
So, has anyone else had severe fluid retention, and is there anything else I can do? Should I be worried about orange urine and lack or peeing for days (then I do heaps!!!)?
Thanks girls, tired and had enough today

Nicole,
I haven't really been following your case before now, but frankly I don't like the sound of your wee - either the colour or the fact your fluid balance sounds pretty screwed up. Was the Dr you spoke to about this an ob?
There are other complications of pg that can cause fluid imbalance probe apart from pre-enclampsia, and some of them can occur without elevated blood pressure.
If I was you, it sounds like the Dr's opinion isn't ringing true compared to your level of concern, and perhaps a 2nd opinion would be worth getting?

Haven't had this problem myself, but I'm told that lying on the floor with your legs vertical against the wall for a short time can help.
This just doesn't sound right to me. If your doctor is just a GP, I'd be getting a second opinion from another. If your doctor is an ob, I'd go back and tell him you don't think it's right, and you want to do something about it. He may just think you were worried about pre-eclampsia, and not realise how severe it is or the impact it's having on your life.

Thanks ladies,
Things haven't gotten better and I have to see my GP today to get some silly forms signed, so I'll take the time to get this sorted. Now it is accompanied with an on and off insatiable thirst and so much fluid intake with little output IYKWIM, so things are not right.
Cheers
Nicole

hi Nicole,
Have you had your gestational diabetes test yet? (Would you believe my son is only 3 months old and I can't remember when the test is taken?!)
Anyway, the insatiable thirst and urine colour suggests that there might be a blood sugar level problem there and would be worth further examining.
I was clear for GD but had horrible swelling (no pre eclampsia either, slighty elevated BP but nothing bad) and it totally sucks, so from that perspective I feel your pain!
But if you are not urinating frequently dispite a large fluid intake it definately needs further examining.
Good luck, I hope you find some relief. I found my pre natal yoga class a blessing for swelling, sciatica and all the fun side effects of pregnancy so that might be worth a shot if only for relaxation?
Go to another doctor... request urinalysis...
Want to make sure you are not having issues with your kidneys or anything like that.
It does not sound like a "good thing"
