I was looking around at baby names the other day an came across
Chanay. It's of french origin and is pronounced Sha-nay, but I'm unable to find a way of spelling it that appeals. I don't even know if it's likely to get used but I really quite like the name and would be more inclined to use it if I could find a spelling option that sat right with me.
So far I've got:
~ Chanaye
~ Shanaye
~ Chanee
~ Shanee
~ Chaney
~ Shaney
I'm leaning away for the S's as it would be a middle name making her initials BS...

I strongly dislike the name: Chanay is an area of France and a surname, not a first name for a girl/woman. And I just think it sounds bogan. Sorry.
But if you are set on it, I would probably say Shanay/Shanae/Shanaye would get the pronunciation you are after. Without an accent over the first E, Chanee or Shanee gives you SHAY-nee, rhyming with rainy. Ditto Chaney or Shaney.
But I suspect no matter what you pick, your daughter will spend her life spelling it out. Would you consider Renée or Shannon instead?

Hi
krissy
I like the spelling of the first two you have listed, I actually prefer it with the C, it looks prettier that way.
If I come up with a different spelling I will let you know.

I dislike the name but would only spell it Shanae. I would also assume it was spelt Shanae if someone said it too me.

I don't like it, I see it as faux pretentious like Chanel and Monet. If I was going to use it I would spell it Shanae.
How about Sinead? Renee is a good suggestion too.

Sorry but on first glance I want to say Channai as
CH-an-ay like the start of church.
Go Shanae or Shanaye at least people will be able to say her name correctly.

Hi,
My first thought for spelling was Shanae (I think it's a really pretty name) and if you're planning on using it was a middle name then I don't think the BS would really mean a lot, in my perspective initials come into play when it's first/last name combo or first/middle/last/name combo.
It's up to you of course - what's the first name you have picked (if you're willing to share).

I have to agree, this spelling looks like it should have a strong CH sound to it.
