We are going tomorrow because I am not inclined to spend Sunday out there with half the population of Canberra!

I am planning BBQ lunch - they do have electric bbqs don't they?

Yes they do Steph. original.gif

Yes, they have really nice stainless steel barbies, and they're even free, but often popular.

We managed to get one right on lunchtime a couple of weeks ago. We had our portable gas one in the car just in case.

I'm not a fan of crowds either, but DD would love the characters dressed up and that.
Tidbinbilla's currently her favourite place, so she'll love it even more after Sunday.
Every week when it's coming up to the weekend she's in my ear about Tidbinbilla. rolleyes.gif

It's only about 20 minutes from our house and so beautiful out there. wub.gif

I just love the views from the playground. wub.gif

We were out their about 6 weeks ago & love the playground. However were not overly impressed with the wildlife sanctuary, I did not know it was there. We walked around it as we had a o/s tourist with us & thougt the kids would enjoy it but all we managed to see was 1 kangaroo.

Before I was pregnant this time around we went on the platypus walk and into the koala enclosure.

We just missed out on seeing some platypuses, (others saw them at the same time we were there), but it was a lovely bushwalk and good reason to get some some exercise anyway.

In the koala enclosure I reckon you'd have buckleys of spotting a koala as there's only a five in that huge enclosure. Maybe if you go on a ranger guidei walk you'd have a better chance.
We're going to try that when number 3 arrives, and my feet can tolerate a bit of walking.

We saw a pair of eagles gliding close to the playground for about an hour last time we were there.
We saw an emu in the playground area the time before.
We've often seen lots of kangaroos around all over the place.
One time most of them even had joeys in their pouches, and they were close enough to see well and get some great photos.

They're opening a new enclosure tomorrow which will have endangered brush tailed wallabies as well as little turtles and possibly more.

Does anyone know if there is a cost to get in?

At nearly midday there were still heaps of BBQs available in the playground area. We saw kangaroos and emus and wedgies and heaps of other smaller birds.

After lunch and a play on the cool stuff we drove up to the Sanctuary and did the long loop walk (which does NOT take 100 minutes I don't think it even took us an hour). Lots of waterbirds around but not much else. Some areas of vegetation are still a bit bare but the new water feature in the middle of the wetlands is going to be fabulous in a few years, particularly if we get some decent rains!

Got home about 5pm and DD was nearly asleep in the car. She has crashed now - and is sporting a blue cheekbone from hitting her face on the flying fox chain. There is black plastic to hold on to but it's only about 50-60cm long and the bit you sit/stand on is joined to the chain above with a big metal shackle thingy that is EXACTLY level with DD's head. We will be getting in touch with someone on Monday about getting it fixed because a Mum who witnessed what happenned to DD said another little girl did exactly the same thing a bit earlier sad.gif.

Sorry your DD injured herself. sad.gif

It's funny, I think the barbies get more use in the middle of Summer on stinking hot days than they do on the milder Spring and Autumn days, from what I've observed.

I'm glad you saw lots of animals.

From what I can gather tomorrow will be free other than food.
We're taking a picnic lunch, as we find food at public events like this is often crap and overprice.
