Hi there, I'm going to a conference in May at the Seymour Centre (Sydney Uni) located in Chippendale. I have no idea when it comes to Sydney, I know the CBD and Ikea....that's it! blush.gif

Does anyone know of any good hotels in the area? I was thinking of taking the train - would it be a long cab ride from the main station to the Uni? Also how easy is it to book a cab with baby seat? I'll be taking my 10 month old.

TIA original.gif

Really close to Central Station, a very short Taxi ride (the main time factor would be traffic) and plenty of buses would go to and from as well.

Hotels, hmm. I will leave that to someone else. I'm more familiar with the perils of student housing wink.gif.

The Seymour centre is about 5 mins from where I live. Its right across the road from Sydney Uni on the cnr of Cleveland Street and City Road.

Its quite central so you could get a hotel right in the city and it really wouldnt cost you an awful lot to catch a cab!

These ones are close by if you want to take a look;

Or look for areas around Central Station, City Centre, Darling Harbour

Hope that helps!

Wonderful thank you. Might be easier to just catch a bus vs organising a taxi/babyseat etc.

I assume it's no problem to take our pram on the train, is there enough room or do I have to fold it up?
Puggle
I've never folded up my pram when travelling on the trains in Sydney. There were always two adults though, so we just parked the pram right in front of the two of us when things got busy.

Are you talking about catching the train to Sydney from here? You'd need to fold up the pram. You can either check it as luggage in the guard's van or there are luggage racks at the end of each carriage.

Once you get to Sydney, buses would be the easiest way to get to Sydney Uni which is only just down the road from Central.

When I first read it I took it to mean Chippendales the male exotic dancers. I was going to ask if you needed any company!

LMAO Eileen, you party animal you! original.gif

Im sure Kate means prams on the sydney trains, so i would say no dont bother folding it up, once you get the pram on the train, someone might be kind enough to help you, just stay in the main section there which has heaps of room, there are seats along the windows, or just stand if its busy. Peak hour would be crazy, but if you're travelling during the day, say after 10 ish you shouldnt have a huge problem. Not worth folding the pram to squeeze down the stairs and into a booth type seat.

The bus station isnt far from central but it is a bit of a walk. I dont know if you can catch a train to the Uni? I think its only buses..

I LOVE that area, almost lived there on the weekends.

1. Train from canberra to sydney. At Sydney Central Station, Go to Railway Square (across the road) on George Street Stand C and catch something like the 423 and 428 Buses which are both Wheelchair-Accessible (hence you may be able to take a pram and not fold up - just ask the driver).

Or on George St Stand D at Railway Square you can catch the 433 bus, which is also Wheelchair-Accessible.

2. Taxi's in sydney - you have to prebook a taxi for a child seat however there is still no an gurantee that it will turn up - a friend of mine waited 2 hours for her prebooked taxi with childseat which never turned up.

Thank you ladies, I'm so tired that I didn't even realise how the title sounded, usually I'd be one of the first to pick up on something like that!

Yes, thinking of catching the train up, thought it might be easier than flying but maybe not? We're in no rush to get there and I thought it'd be a bit of fun for the two of us to take the train? I'll pack the baby bjorn to make life a little easier...

Chaney thanks for the info - you make it all too easy!
