Hello there
I have 5 days to come up with a decision
DH and I have almost chosen Angelica as a fist name for our first child, but then suddenly the Rugrats character came to mind and now he is a bit put off - I am not because I haven't even seen an episode and barely heard of it!
How does the name Angelica sound to all of you? What springs to your mind when you hear it, an "angel- like" bub or a rugrat cartoon or something else?
THe second name would be

Angelica Alessandra

And what do you think of the rest of our shortlist which is:
- Liliana
- Valentina
- Eliana
- Daniela
- Elisabetta

I appreciate all sorts of comments good and bad

What about Angelique Alessandra??

I also like Liliana & Eliana.. very pretty.. especially with the nn Lili and Eli..

I like Angelica. One of our neighbours had a child with that name and she was a pretty little thing, so I only have positive associations. I don't know the Rugrats, so had no idea there was a character with that name. I think you'd be safe that most people wouldn't make the connection.

Of your other names, I like Daniela, but the others seem a little 'tissied' up for my plain tastes. So I'd much prefer Lillian to Liliana, and Elizabeth to Elisabetta But then again, there may be a cultural difference?

Angelica is nice, but its NMS, but if you like it, then dont let a cartoon character get the better of you. IMO i dont think Rugrats is all that big in comparison to say Dora, Barbie etc. Now had you have said the name was Dora then i would have said no way, not a name i would use considering the popularity IYKWIM, hope i made sense!!

- Liliana (i really like this, and with the NN Lilly i think its a great name!)
- Valentina (i dont like this one, sorry)
- Eliana (please tell me how to pronounce, is it El-E-Arna? I really like the look of it, and if its said they way i think, then i love it)
- Daniela (i really dislike this spelling, sorry)
- Elisabetta (again, dont like this one at all)

So my picks would be Eliana first and then Liliana a close second biggrin.gif

i dont have anything against the name personally... but i would associate it with the rugrats (and TBH i cant believe youve never seen it ohmy.gif its one of my favourite kid shows)
and Angelica in the rugrats was pretty much the opposite of angelic, she played the mean bossy toddler who picked on the babies and got them to do her dirty deeds for her...

But since there are 2 people so far (out of 5 posts) that hasnt even heard of the rugrats, i wouldnt worry about it, and if you love the name then go for it!

I love Liliana and Eliana though... in fact i might see what DP thinks of them ready for our next bub, lol...

ETA - theres also a LILLIAN in rugrats, lol... are you sure you havnt seen the show before?

I prefer Eliana/Liliana wub.gif

I don't think of the Rugrats as I tend to pronounce it as An-gel-lee-ca whereas I'm fairly sure they pronounce it as An-gel-ee-ca. I like it pronounced the way I do and not the other way. I'm not quite sure it goes with Alessandra though.

From your list I love Liliana and like Eliana and Daniela but don't think any of them flow well with Alessandra due to them all ending in an A and Alessandra beginning and ending in an A.

How about Lillian Alessandra or Elizabeth Alessandra?

A fellow EB-er has a DD Angelica - I think its a lovely, versatile name.

Personally I wouldn't worry about the Rugrats connection, do they even play that show on TV anymore?
It's quite a nice name, but I do prefer Angelina though.
PinkyBlue
Yes - rugrats is the first thing that comes to mind.

But that wouldnt put me off. Names tend to grow with the child, the child makes it there own.

I must admit I always think of either Angelica from Rugrats or Angelica Huston, who for some reason always reminds me of a witch lol. I dont hate the name even because of the connection made, but it isnt one that immediately jumps out at me.

I do like the suggestion of Angelique, I think it actually flows better with the middle name you have chosen. Although the double names both starting with'a', and ending with 'a' if you used Angelica is a bit awkward and difficult to say. Looks lovely, just sounds a bit clunky.

I really like Valentina and even Alessandra is lovely as a first name too.

Because Alessandra starts and ends with an 'a', it makes it sound slightly awkward when used with any of the names ending in an 'a'. However if you switched them, Alessandra Valentina for example, it flows a lot better and is slightly easier to say (while still looking lovely).

My dd had an Angelica in her kinder class last year and the only issue that sprang to mind with it was the pronunciation (An-gel-li-ca or Angel-ica). The mother was always correcting us, as was the little girl!

I suppose at the time I did think of Rugrats not that I thought it really mattered though.

On the rest of the short list I quite like Liliana & Eliana.

Thank you everybody for the nice replies and comments.
Unfortunately my DP's heart is set on the second name so I can't think of changing that, but I'll propose Angelique as option now.
I'll still keep the shortlist until the day: maybe we see her little face and we'll decide there and then which name she "looks like" without uhmming and ahrring -at least that what I hope 'll happen!!

I wouldn't be put of a name by a cartoon character. I every now and then got "Carmen San Deigo", but I was named that long before the game came out. I guess you could name your child just about anything and it could end up a character.

I love the name Deigo for a boy and wouldn't be put of by the whole Dora/Deigo thing.
