If you knew a child with a name that you have always loved and that child was in your extended family (DH's cousin's, cousin's daughter) whom you may only see once a year (if that)...would you still call your child that name?

No
*mumof4*
Yep...no problem. If you only see him/her - even a couple of times a year - I don't think it matters!

Me 38
DH 40 (nearly 41!)
DS 13.5 Jack
DD 11.5 Laura
DD 8 (nearly 9) Madelyn
DS 6 Harrison

Yes I wouldn't worry if you don't see them much! My DHs cousin lives in another state and their dd is Charlotte and so is our dd3! They were actually quite honoured! If you really love the name go for it! original.gif
Chocolate Addict
Yes I would.
However if it was a direct family member, like sister, or neice naming their child then No.

My niece had a child and named her the name I always loved, I was a bit disappointed but it didn't worry me too much, even my sister (her mum) told me to still use the name! lol (we have different surnames). I had a boy so not a problem.

Lots of greek and maybe italian families it is tradition to name the child after the grandparents I believe, so there are loads of kids with the same name in the family tree. original.gif

yes i was just thinking of this. My DS a family friend that i never see has that name, with DD i had a second cousin and an family aquaintance which we have no contact with.If it's a name you love thatn go with as long as it's not immediate family it should be fine.
I am already thinking for my next child even though a 2 relatives that are like 10 yrs and we have no contact with have that name but i just can't part with it.

Yes. Wouldn't think twice about it.

I am having the same dilema but it is my cousin's child, who lives in the UK, (she is 12 years old and is also my God child).

Her name is probably my favourite girl's name - I think that I may run it by her mum first - if anything I think that they will probably be touched, particularly as she split up from my cousin last year and I am remaining in contact more with her.

yep, without hesitation
